Description

This fabulous Victorian property is nestled on a quiet street in the heart of the Old Town, just below the castle, in the charming seaside resort of Scarborough. Boasting an abundance of individual style and period features, the accommodation provides a stylish home away from home.

A perfect location for couples or families wanting everything on their doorstep, with easy access to either the North or South Bay, and within a few minutes walk into the town, which has a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants. A town of two halves, you will be spoilt for choice, from the fantastic historic castle and tranquil coastal walks to amusement arcades, pleasure steamers and miniature railway. Scarborough also boasts an open air theatre and the world-famous Naval Warfare in Peasholm Park. Attractions nearby include Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo and North Yorkshire Water Park.

The property is a beautiful Victorian town house, presented over 3 floors. Beautifully decorated and in harmony with its heritage, Ridsdale House combines the best of past and present with a tasteful blend of period character and original features, vintage furniture and modern luxuries. Close attention to detail has been paid to provide everything you could need; from the modern kitchen and the elegant dining room with comfy sofa for relaxing on the lower ground floor, to the upper ground floor with a formal lounge and cosy snug-come-library. The three bedrooms are on the top floor, with two at the rear having fantastic views over the South Bay and the lighthouse stretching as far as Filey Brigg. With a small shower room and WC on the top floor, bathroom on the lower ground floor and a sheltered south facing garden, this is a wonderful place to spend a holiday on the coast.

Entrance way: Through the wrought iron gate into the small forecourt with a bench. The door opens onto the half landing with stairs down to the kitchen and dining room and also up to the lounge and snug.

LOWER GROUND FLOOR
Hallway: With a freezer under the stairs and a door out to the rear garden.
Kitchen: A mixture of original and contemporary with modern kitchen units and original cast iron fireplace set in a brick chimney breast. There is a built-in electric oven with ceramic hob and hood over, dishwasher, fridge, microwave and a Bosch Tassimo coffee machine, perfect for making your morning brew. A moveable tall table with two stools is ideal for you to sit and keep the cook company or to watch the wall mounted TV. Also, don’t miss the original mains bells above the door, not in use now, sadly...
Utility: Washing machine, boiler and a door to the front lower courtyard.
Dining Room: The beautiful elegant room with original wooden floor has a large table with six comfy chairs and a three seater sofa. The alcoves hold an original cupboard and shelves in one and a grandfather clock in the other. There is a large mirror on the chimney breast and side lamps to add to the evening ambience. The window looks out over the rear garden.
Bathroom:
This fully tiled modern bathroom has a bath with rain-head shower over and a glass screen. The vanity washbasin has a lighted mirror over and there is a WC and heated towel rail.

UPPER GROUND FLOOR
Lounge: A stunningly elegant room with two windows overlooking the rear garden, an original cast iron fireplace in a marble surround with mirror over. With a smart TV, two 2-seater sofas and two armchairs, it is the perfect place to relax after a day on the beach. There is a standard lamp and a console table with chair, various side tables and a window seat with oblique sea views.

Snug/Library: This is a cosy room for a little bit of quiet time, either to watch the wall mounted TV (with HDMI cable, should you wish to bring a games console) or make the most of the books in the library alcove. Here you will find a two-seater sofa and two armchairs with a nest of tables to rest your coffee on, not forgetting the proper library steps. The chimney breast holds one of the many original cast iron fireplaces in the property.

SECOND FLOOR

Bedroom 1: At the front of the property, with a double bed and two bedside cabinets with lamps. There are two built-in wardrobes and a dressing table with stool and a mirror. Also, there is an original cast iron fireplace to add to the character.
Bedroom 2: Facing the rear with spectacular views of Scarborough’s South Bay all the way round to Filey Brigg, this room has two single beds, a chest of drawers with mirror over and two lamps. Again, another cast iron fireplace is a reminder of how this character property was originally heated. There is a hanging rail for your clothes.
Bedroom 3: More fantastic views from this window, including the bay and the lighthouse. A three-quarter bed will feel luxurious for one lucky person, with a bedside cabinet and lamp and a double wardrobe.
Shower Room: Small shower cubicle with rain-head shower, washbasin with mirror over, heated towel rail and macerator WC.
Outside: The front lower courtyard has a bench while at the rear is a beautiful terrace garden with many mature plants and a lovely area with lounge furniture to sit out and enjoy the sun.

Pets: 1 well behaved small/medium sized dog, restricted to the lower ground floor of the property.
Parking: On street parking, either at the front or rear, scratch cards provided.
Short breaks: Not accepted at peak times.
Notes: Unlimited WiFi is available free of charge. No smoking at this property. Mobile phone signal is strong. Towels are provided. Fireplaces are not in use. Please note due to the number of steps in the property the house may not be suitable for young children and people with mobility issues.

Reviews

Very clean and tidy, in a great location.

Mr N,

Lovely cottage, very well equipped kitchen, overall just beautiful.

Mrs C,

A very well appointed property with some internal quirky ornaments. A nice location, so long as you don’t mind steep hills and steps, however the climb from the harbour to the top floor of the house was worth it for the views. Parking was never an issue with permits provided for both cars in our booking.

Mr B,

The house is lovely but afraid the area is not. Fortunately we decided not to move the car all week, but could have been a worry to park it again. The Area is quite run down, not really a holiday destination

Mr R,

We had a happy and comfortable stay at Ridsdale House. It has all you need in this quirky 3 story building. I would definitely consider staying again should I return to Scarborough.

Ms R,

Ridsdale House was a perfect base for our first visit to Scarborough: comfortable, well-appointed, spacious and light. We loved the location in the heart of the old town, and the views from the bedrooms over South Bay were lovely to wake up to. Parking was not a problem with the scratch-card system. We didn't move the car all week and went everywhere on foot - there was plenty to see close at hand! I would say, though, that one needs to be physically able to enjoy this house - the stairs are a little narrow and steep, but that wasn't a problem for us.

Ms M,

Location

Scarborough
Scarborough is an all year round destination, with its busy fishing harbour and marina a hub of excitement whatever the weather. Scarborough Castle is set in a stunning location and offers visitors panoramic views over the dramatic coastline. The 2,500-year old building is a must see for anyone visiting the area, and a wonderful day out for everyone.
There's so much to see and do during the day in this lovely seaside town, but also plenty of places to relax and unwind in the evening, including many bars and eateries along the seafront.
