Description

This beautifully restored stone cottage sits in the historic, ‘orchard village’ of Husthwaite, on the edge of the North York Moors. The cottage is ideally located to explore the historic sights and natural beauty of North Yorkshire. Set in ‘Herriot country’, the village has picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the nearby White Horse of Kilburn carved into the hillside in 1857, a 12th-century Norman church, charming houses, a local pub and nearby walking and cycling trails. The Georgian market town of Easingwold (4.5 miles), with its cobbled square and shops, cafes/restaurants and pubs, is well worth a visit and the city of York, rich in history and culture with Roman roots and a Viking past, is a short drive away (18 miles). Also within easy reach are National Trust properties and grand houses including Castle Howard (15 miles).

This is a stylish stone cottage in which stunning original features, reclaimed woods and earthy textures blend with sleek contemporary fittings. Throw open the double doors on a summer’s day to relax with a coffee or dine al fresco on the stone terrace overlooking the cottage’s lawned area or in winter, settle down with one of the cottage’s collection of books or board games. It’s as perfect for a solo or couple’s escape as it is for groups seeking a luxury cottage hideaway. Step inside to a spacious open-plan, calm, inviting and comfortable sitting room. Beautifully furnished and with carefully considered interiors, it’s a great space for enjoying a movie on the large smart TV in front of the wood burner. Large double doors flood the area with light and connect to the garden, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. Ground source underfloor heating adds to the comfort and cosiness. Wander through to the handcrafted bespoke kitchen and dining area, equipped with high-end appliances, perfect for preparing breakfasts, summer lunches, and evening suppers. Gather around the built-in seating that accommodates the entire group with ease. As night falls, retreat to one of the three gorgeous bedrooms. The ground-floor bedroom features a king-size bed, smart TV and a wood burner, perfect for chilly nights, and connects to a Jack and Jill bathroom with an impressive walk-in wet room shower, double-ended, stone bath and WC. Upstairs, you’ll find two more serene, cosy retreats with king-size beds, each with its own en-suite shower room and WC. One bedroom can be made up as a twin (but the beds remain close together as the space is cosy). Both rooms have a unique yet calming décor with original beams, reclaimed woods and natural linens. There is also a utility room for washing and drying clothes and a convenient space for hanging coats and leaving boots.

Set in the grounds of an old manor house, the cottage has its own private charming stone terrace with an outdoor dining area and sofa and a lawned area with a woodland view.

Reviews

A beautifully thought out renovated cottage off the beaten track set in the grounds of the lovely owner’s grand residence-fabulous furnishings and a real feel that we were the first paying guests due to superb condition of everything inside! A wonderful array of books, all seemingly brand new, thoughtfully dotted around the cottage which was lovely. Very well equipped, instant hot water to all taps, and the provision of gorgeous spa type shower gels and shampoos was a lovely addition. The Plum and Pheasant nearby was a great place to eat, but if you go into The Golden Fleece in the middle of Thirsk, take a bag of smiles to pass around to the manager and employees-food and service was great, but everything done in a very somber cold way-truly strange!!!! And I just love good manners and a friendly disposition! A great area to explore and we shall certainly be back next year to enjoy another tranquil week away at this little gem of a cottage! Saying a big Thankyou to the owner, Sarah for making us so welcome!

Mrs H,

A wonderful cottage, very comfortable with everything you need and tastefully decorated throughout. Great location to explore many of the beautiful villages around this part of the country.

Mrs M,

We have had the best week at Anthology Cottage. Beautifully comfortable, bright and cheerful. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook when we were not out enjoying supper in one of the fine pubs close at hand. Two lovely trips to York for Christmas shopping and tea at Betty’s cafe and walks out plonge the nearby pathways. All brilliant, thank you.

Mrs D,

My wife and I visited with our two moms. And absolutely loved it. The surrounding estate with free roaming sheep was lovely. The property itself has been renovated to an exceptional standard. The location is perfect for exploring North Yorkshire with local amenities a few minutes away. Sarah was the perfect host. Helpful and friendly but not intrusive. We loved our stay here.

Mr C,

This cottage is beautiful, very clean and comfortable. It has everything we needed for our week away and more. Three good sized bedrooms all with en-suite and a well maintained private garden. The location was perfectly situated for us to explore the North Yorkshire moors and Whitby and there was a good selection of pubs in the local area. The owners were very helpful and on hand to answer any questions prior and during our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and will definitely book again.
