Food & Drink in Suffolk

Our Favourite Restaurants and Pubs in Suffolk

Although all our holiday cottages are self-catering, everyone wants a night/lunchtime off once in a while, especially on holiday! In a county such as Suffolk, fresh seafood, traditional pub grub and small, local cafes are never too far, leaving you spoilt for choice. While choice is always welcome, it can make it harder to discern the good from the brilliant (and the less-good), so we asked our local team to recommend some of their favourite places to eat and drink in Suffolk, and this is what they came up with.

Southwold

Pints outside a pub

The Lord Nelson Pub

This Southwold staple thrives in all seasons, from cold pints and glasses of fizzy gin on the village green in summer, to hot meals by their open fire in winter. Known locally as ‘The Nellie’, the pub is attached to local brewery and distillery Adnams, an East Anglian gem, so a visit here is a great way to support them. Their menu is also vegetarian friendly and they have a separate children’s menu, so there should be something for everyone.

Coasters

Situated right in the centre of Southwold on Queen Street, Coasters has been a local favourite since it opened in 2007. With an ever-changing menu, it is hard to say exactly what to expect at Coasters, but one thing is for sure, it will be fresh, well-presented and thoroughly chosen for utmost tasting pleasure. With breakfast, lunch and a-la-carte menus available, you can nip into Coasters any time of day and be guaranteed to leave full and happy.

Sole Bay Fish Co

As mentioned in our Suffolk Coastal Guide, Southwold Harbour is the place to go for fish and chips and our local team gently nudge you towards picking Sole Bay Fish Co. With two locations in Southwold, harbourside and The Little Fish and Chip Shop on East Street, you should be able to avoid disappointment in your endeavors to taste some of Southwold’s finest fish and seafood.

Lowestoft and Oulton Broad

Cafe 142

Located on Bridge Road just outside Nicholas Everitt Park in Lowestoft is Cafe 142, a place serving everything from brunch and afternoon tea, to coffee and cocktails. With both indoor and outdoor seating, Cafe 142 can be visited in all weathers and on every occasion. Our local team highly recommend their sharing boards for a light, tasty lunch.

Large Burger

JOJO’s

Are you a lover of all things American: burgers, wings, fries? Then Jojo’s is the place to be. With an extensive menu serving every type of sauce, meat combo and side you can think of to accompany a burger, Jojo’s gets rave reviews every time. If you’re veggie or not-so-keen on meat, they also have a great selection of alternative options on their Green Gobbler menu. Accompany your feast with a cocktail for extra indulgence.

Table full of curry

Labone

Serving up authentic Indian cuisine, Labone will provide you with colour, flavour, spice and a full and satisfied belly. Owner Ishak Ahmed honed his culinary skills in Bangladesh and has been bringing his extensive knowledge to Lowestoft since he opened the restaurant and is dedicated to using quality ingredients and cooking to the highest standards. Just looking at their huge menu is bound to get taste buds tingling!

Beccles

Graze

Graze Cafe Bar and Grill at the White Horse Pub in Beccles prides itself on offering a little bit of everything. The restaurant is stylish and the staff are super friendly, not to mention the very well stocked bar where you can order your tipple of choice to accompany your meal. At Graze, a truly splendid dining experience awaits you.

Aldeburgh

The Lighthouse

So good it’s in the Michelin Guide, The Lighthouse in Aldeburgh is revered by locals and visitors alike.
