A favourite amongst Lake District visitors, the Langdale Valley is popular with walkers, climbers and fell runners, all of whom are attracted to the many fells and green coutryside.
This beautiful, breathtaking valley runs west of Ambleside up to the Langdale Pikes. It includes the lovely village of Elterwater with its pub and craft shops and the delightful village of Chapel Stile. Langdale Valley has plenty of walking routes where you'll find scenic picnic spots to enjoy the views and if you're hoping to bring your dog, you’re in luck as many of our cottagse are dog friendly.
Leave the stress of everyday life behind and challenge yourself to climb Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. Or marvel at the beauty of Skelwith Force, a fifteen foot waterfall which cuts a dramatic passage between the rocks. Take in Ambleside on the Northern shore of Lake Windermere; a real tourist centre with an excellent array of shops and eateries. You'll find good access to the fells, in particular the Fairfield Horseshoe; a classic 10 mile round from Rydal or Ambleside.
For those who enjoy a more leisurely pace, why not visit Wordsworth House, a whitewashed cottage near Grasmere and formerly home to William Wordsworth. Alternatively, take a relaxing cruise on Lake Windermere, England's largest lake, or while away a morning at the Lakeland Motor Museum.
