Description

With plenty of charming characterful features throughout, Box Cottage is thought to date back to around the 18th century. This cosy pet-friendly cottage is nestled within the popular village of Snape close by to the River Alde.

Box Cottage is a quaint and cosy property with a lovely modern kitchen and diner, which is flooded with natural light and is the perfect space for guests to gather together and enjoy meals. The snug sitting room has comfortable seating surrounding a cream-coloured wood burner encased in a brick fireplace. Upstairs are two comfortable bedrooms and a modern family bathroom with walk-in shower.

The pretty front garden of the cottage looks towards the Snape Maltings Concert Hall, as well as the River Alde and there is also a delightful rear garden which has pretty plants and shrubs and a seating area with garden furniture. From the rear garden gate you can access the parking area which is spacious enough for two cars.

Box Cottage is a fantastic holiday choice for nature lovers, concert goers, walkers and cyclists, with the property perched on an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Box Cottage is also within easy access of Snape Maltings which a small complex of shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants and also home to various concerts throughout the year. Shop: 300 yards. Snape is best known as the venue for the Aldeburgh Festival and for other events throughout the year held in the Maltings Concert Hall. However, the pretty village, at the head of the tidal estuary, is a popular holiday venue in its own right and central for exploring the unique area of the Suffolk Heritage Coast – the tidal estuary and network of footpaths are one of the most interesting areas of Suffolk for exploring on foot. There is easy access to the fascinating coastal town of Aldeburgh, plus castles and much more to explore at Framlingham and Orford. The burial treasures at Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge, should not be missed also.

Reviews

We loved this cottage, particularly for its location. It was great to have so many walking options directly from the cottage, Had I realised that we were only ten minutes walk from Snape Maltings I would have prebooked tickets for a concert! There are also many interesting places to visit round and about, and our dog loved all the walks we went on. The only downside was the bitterly cold wind off the sea - but it won't put us off a return visit!

Mrs C,

Really enjoyed our short stay at Box Cottage. Great location near two nice pubs and a very short walk to Snape Maltings with some lovely little shops, a pub and some excellent walks. Also not far at all from the lovely seaside town of Aldeburgh which is a must visit. The cottage is small but fine for us (2 adults, 1 child and a dog). We would absolutely recommend

Mrs B,

Lovely clean cottage with good equipment. It’s snug with low ceilings but just what we wanted. Location is great. 2 pubs within 30 seconds walk. Beach is 10 min drive away. Lots of places to walk the dog. Secure garden which was also great for the dog. Cottage is near a busy road but it didn’t bother us. Had a fantastic break.

Mr B,

Really nice cottage, well furnished with lots of nice touches. We intend to go back and have already talked about this. In a very good location with two pubs, an italian restaurant and Snape maltings within quick walking distance. The owner has been very helpful to us on both stays and has ensured a warm welcome. 10/10 for quality of stay.

Mr K,

Box cottage is a lovely place to stay and is very convenient for Snape Maltings and Aldeburgh. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday.

Rev C,

Lovely cottage in a really good location

Mr M,

Box Cottage is a lovely, well furnished base for exploring the surrounding area but the amount of traffic noise both in the house and garden did lessen our ability to sleep and relax somewhat. Comfy furnishings indoors were all of a good standard but we would have appreciated somewhere comfy to sit outside and read a book and unwind. The black sun loungers seemed to have no mechanism for stopping the user tipping backwards and we had to clean the bistro set at the back in order to use it. This really is a lovely cottage but I do think road noise should be mentioned in the description.

Mrs Anna-Maria H,

Great cottage, location and garden a sun trap. Golden Keys pub fab food. Would recommend this cottage to anyone. Everything you needed ( owners have gone above and beyond)! Loved it.

Mrs P,

Very comfortable and so sweet!! Fantastic location and it was hard to leave!!

Ms Hannah M,

This is our second break with this company and we have been very happy on both occasions

Mr Eugene G,

This was our 3rd stay at Box Cottage before, during and post COVID and with and without dog. We have always found the cottage clean , well equipped and comfortable. And ideally situated for local walks and exploring the Suffolk coast

Mr A,

Great communication via email and text. The cottage was of a good standard and was accurately described and the photos were representative

Miss Linda C,

Excellent property, within 5 minutes walk of Snape Maltings and 1 minute (if that) of a pub.

Mr K,

Box Cottage was the perfect base for our family (me, two kids ages 11 and 9 and one dog). It’s cosy and comfortable with an excellent selection of games, books and dvds (as well as a smart tv) in the lounge and a very well equipped kitchen. We appreciated the welcome pack goodies too! The garden is fully enclosed, which was useful for the dog. If we’d visited in the summer, it would have been a nice garden for outdoor drinks and meals. The location is great - the pubs opposite are very good and there are beautiful walks nearby. Snape itself is a lovely village and a good base for exploring other places in Suffolk. If you have very young children, the steep stairs might prove a bit alarming but generally it’s a child-friendly place. Mobile phone reception is non-existent but there is good wifi so this wasn’t an issue for us.
