Latest “Deserve a Break” winners announced

Those that most deserve a break from the everyday stresses and strains of life are so often those unsung heroes who are always looking out for others - and never manage to get one. That's the reason family-run holiday rental business Cottage Holidays decided to do something about it with their “Who Deserves a Break?” campaign.

Those that most deserve a break from the everyday stresses and strains of life are so often those unsung heroes who are always looking out for others - and never manage to get one. That's the reason family-run holiday rental business Cottage Holidays decided to do something about it with their “Who Deserves a Break?” campaign.

Cottage Holidays are running a three-campaign search to find everyday unsung heroes. As with the initial campaign, this second phase has seen a wonderful influx of people nominated who go above and beyond to help others. Almost 100 inspirational stories were submitted via the nominations page.

At the end of a four-week search and an online public vote, Jean Evans from Carmarthen has baked her way into the hearts of the voters and has won the first prize of a week’s break in Snowdonia. Jean, a founder member of Carmarthen’s local Hospice Appeal has dedicated over 20 years to the committee.  She tirelessly gives her time to charity work for St John’s Church and visits people who are no longer able to attend church – taking gorgeous home-baked goodies with her on her visits. As a member of the Mayor’s Charity Appeal Committee, she raises money for several charities, makes the cakes for the Mayor’s Annual Fun Run and bakes for the Vintage Tea Party each June too.

Jean said “I feel humbled to be nominated and sincerely hope that in some small way I make a difference to the lives of people, if I can help somebody as I pass this way then my living shall not be in vain.” The three other finalists, who will receive a free cottage mini-break are Janet Gunner from Dartford, Susan Hancock from Romsey and Brenda Hutchinson from Liverpool.  All are more than deserving of some “me-time”.

Cottage Holidays have one more campaign to go and will be giving away a week’s cottage holiday in Suffolk along with three more mini-breaks to people whose selfless help for friends, family and their communities deserve recognition.
