Reviews

An excellent property in a beautiful part of Devon. All rooms were spacious and nicely decorated.

Mr R,

This holiday accommodation was booked to celebrate birthdays with our family. Ness Dene was selected as it has 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and plenty of living space for 8 adults, 2 toddlers and a dog. In the initial booking a request was made for 2 travel cots and 2 high chairs for our grandsons. On Monday 3rd June my husband called Original Cottages to confirm the booking and the requirements for cots and high chairs. My husband was advised that the property came with 1 travel cot and 1 high chair, so we would need to pay an extra £25 each for the extra cot and high chair. This payment was made immediately by BACs payment. On arrival at the property on Saturday afternoon 8th June after a lengthy journey of some five hours it was established that there was only one high chair and no cots. We immediately phoned Original Cottages who advised that they would sort this problem for us but it would take some time. After 1.5 hours a further high chair was delivered with two travel cots, but then we realised it was only the cot frames that had been supplied and there were no mattresses or mattress bases. With two tired toddlers causing problems my daughter went on line and luckily managed to order two mattresses via Argos in Torquay at a cost of £60. My sons in law went off to collect the mattresses, with a decision also made that they would collect a variety of pizzas to eat when they returned, as everyone was exhausted by having to deal with this extra problem of which we had not been informed and was not of our making. Having been on the road since 10:00am we were finally able to put two very tired and irritable 18 month old toddlers to bed at 8:00pm. This is totally unacceptable. I had pre-booked a supermarket grocery delivery for our holiday, but on arrival at the house we had to clean the worksurfaces prior to being able to unload the groceries. The cleaning pads provided in the house that we had to use to clean the kitchen work surfaces had been used before and left a lot to be desired. When we put the oven on to cook the pizzas we found that the oven would not start as it was saying that it had to do a “self-cleaning cycle” before it could be used, as it had been left in a dirty state by previous occupants. This meant that we had to wait in excess of 1 hour before we were able to cook the pizzas. We decided that, as it was a nice evening, we would take advantage of being able to eat outside. However on removing the cover from the patio table and chairs we were horrified to find a large amount of debris underneath and the furniture had to be cleaned before we could use it.. We found that the waste bin provided in the kitchen with sections for waste and recycling had large black bin liners in each section instead of appropriately sized bin liners and there were no spares, which we had to purchase. The shower head in the upstairs bedroom on the left hand side leaked everywhere when used, this required the floor to be dried after each use. In spite of the house being able to accommodate 8 people we only had 1 key for the use of the house, so we were forever worried when we went out in separate groups in case the key hadn’t been left in the key safe. We vacated the house on Saturday 15 June after what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday, which unfortunately was not the case. The house itself is excellent and the owners have gone to some trouble to make it welcoming, however it is being let down by the people who do the cleaning and maintenance who leave a lot to be desired. Since arriving home we have had to wait almost 4 weeks for the return of our security deposit, even though this was approved after two days. The administration team made repeated excuses that our bank details were incorrect, this was in spite of the fact that they managed to take money from our account without any problem when we were paying for the holiday.

Mr W,

The only minor issue for us was that my elderly, and not so mobile Mum was with us and found it difficult to access the property, but once there it was perfect for all of us...

Mr K,

Cottage was ideally situated, spacious and well equipped with scenic views from the balcony. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Mrs M,

Had a brilliant Easter stay at ness dene house , house was very comfortable and well equipped for our stay 2 family’s and 3 small dogs . House was situated above long drive that is quite steep and narrow so not good for the less mobile .Shaldon is a lovely small fishing port with boutique style shops enjoyed our stay would like to return sometime lovely welcome pack .

Mr B,

The property was lovely, it was well furnished and ideal for a family party, great entertainment area in kitchen/diner the main areas were very clean, will definitely stay again, a beautiful home

Mrs M,

Great property, comfortably sleeps 8, very dog friendly. Shaldon is a lovely location with walks, pubs and cafe’s plus a great butcher, no need to cross the river to Teignmouth much better is the strenuous walk along the coastal path to the Thatched Tavern.

Mr W,

Every single moment has been lovely here! Can't wait to come back again soon. Just the most beautiful house in the most picturesque setting. Our kids loved it, we loved it and our new puppy, Gerald, was in his element! Thanks so much Sally. We will recommend this place to everyone!

Lynny & A

Thoroughly fab No 1! Friends, drink, dance, chillin, seaside + food, what more could we want? :)

BBQing on the terrace + sunbathing. Loathe the steep hill climb, but I'll get over it. Shaldon is beautiful! Very HYGGE - read the book - loved it! Now also want a 'SHE' shed - read that book also! Thank you for a beautiful home!
