Description
Quietly located in one of the colourful lanes of the picturesque fishing village of Appledore. This cosy character cottage is less than 200 yards from the Quay overlooking the Torridge Estuary and with views across the water to the beach and watersports centre of Instow.
Whimbrel Cottage offers a wonderful home from home with many original features including low beams, sloping ceilings and narrow steep stairs. On the ground floor a small porch leads directly into an attractive beamed living room with a woodburner in an inglenook providing a cosy focal point. An inner hallway leads into the kitchen/diner where meals can be taken either inside or in the small and pretty walled courtyard that leads off. On the first floor there is an attractive double room at the front of the property, a twin room at the rear and a family bathroom.
Appledore is a thriving village with a rich maritime history going back to the Elizabethans. Fishing and boat building continues today. The Quay with its small shops, cafes, and character inns is the central hub of the village whilst quietly hidden in the maze of narrow lanes are galleries, craft and antique shops as well as riverside pubs. Whimbrels Cottage is a great base for exploring this lovely part of Devon and is within a short drive of the beautiful surfing beach at Westward Ho!, the historic market towns of Barnstaple, Torrington and Bideford, Northam Burrows nature reserve and the spectacular rugged coastline that stretches westwards towards Hartland and Cornwall.
