Description

A charming 3-bedroom Grade II listed cottage. Sea salt cottage dates all the way back to 1811. Perfectly located on the East side of the town within a yard off the cobbled part of historic Church Street. There are beautiful restaurants, shops and cafes, as well as Tate hill beach a short stroll away. The cottage is pet friendly, well equipped, sleeping 4 people and presented to a good standard. A perfect base for those looking for a central location yet tucked away from the Hustle and bustle of one of the most popular areas of Whitby, yet a wealth of amenities a mere stone’s throw away.

ENTRANCE:
Kitchen/ Diner: Electric hob, oven and grill, microwave, washing machine and fridge/freezer. Table and chairs. Utility cupboard with coat hanging area, shoe storage, ironing board and iron.
Lounge: Comfortable 3 seater sofa and chair, wooden sideboard with drawers, large coffee table. Smart TV. Electric, woodburner effect fire and an occasional table.

Stairs off the kitchen leading to;

Bedroom 1: King-size bed, bedside cabinets with stylish lamps. Built in wardrobe. Oval mirror.
Bedroom 2: Double bed, bedside cabinets with stylish lamps. Built In wardrobe. Wooden feature mirror.
Bedroom 3: Single bed, bedside cabinet.
Bathroom: Bath, shower over bath, toilet, wash basin and mirror. Storage space.

Pets: One dog is welcome.
Parking: Car Parking Scratchcards are provided in the property for the W zones.
Heating: Electric wood burning effect fire & radiators.
Short Breaks: Available anytime.

Hello, I wish to raise a couple of issues with our cottage this week. I have also rung your office this afternoon to explain. Firstly, and without any prior warning from yourselves, we have had to suffer constant noise from renovation work in the cottage next door. They has been the constant noise and vibration of drilling and hammering, from morning to evening. This has been particularly difficult for our daughter who is autistic and finds sudden loud noises very distressing. Naturally, I went to speak with them, and whilst listening to me, they made it clear that they were carrying on regardless. They seemed to think that if they weren’t actually hammering on the adjoining wall, that it would be okay. Please go down and see for yourselves. No doubt this coming weeks tenants will have similar issues. Secondly, the cottage is advertised as having Sky TV. It does not. There is a Sky box, but clearly the owner has not kept up the subscription, because we could only get the regular terrestrial channels. (I know, we have Sky at home). This is no good in the evenings when you have a family, and we were particularly relying on this as there was no DVD player. The two issues have led to a very disappointing holiday, and given that we were not alerted to the potential disruption next door, and that the Sky TV did not exist, then I feel that some compensation should be in order please. Big bed was a bit noisy and the shower could do with updating. A hairdryer would be a good addition. Everything else was great, lovely cottage and perfect location.

Location

Whitby
Whitby is a popular choice for visitors all year round. It is well known for its long sandy beach and delicious seafood. The river Esk flows through the town to the sea and cottages are perched on the hills on each side, with cobbled streets and historic yards providing a maze of places to explore. The town has a fantastic mix of modern shops and services, traditional stores and boutique shops. Whitby jet continues to be made into beautiful jewellery and sold in a number of shops.  There are plenty of excellent restaurants which serve local fish and seafood, as well as a wonderful choice of cafes and tearooms.

The ruins of Whitby Abbey stand dominantly on the clifftop and can be reached by climbing the 199 steps from the old town. The Abbey is said to have been the inspiration for Bram Stoker's novel Count Dracula, and its gothic splendour is the perfect place from which to take in some truly stunning views over the town, harbour and coastline. Whitby harbour is steeped in history and visitors can see where British explorer Captain James Cook first worked as an apprentice before setting sail and discovering Australia. A statue of this great explorer stands proudly above the town, along with some huge whalebones, a sign of the town's maritime history. The harbour is a buzz of activity and you can enjoy early mornings watching the fishing boats come ashore before getting first choice of their catch of the day.

There's always something happening throughout the town, with festivals and fairs are held throughout the year. These include Whitby Folk Week and the Whitby Regatta, and there are two popular Goth festivals each year.
