Whitby
Whitby is a popular choice for visitors all year round. It is well known for its long sandy beach and delicious seafood. For a different day out, why not climb the famous 199 steps to reach the ruins of Whitby Abbey. It's said to have been the inspiration for Bram Stokers Count Dracula, and its gothic splendour is the perfect place from which to take in some truly stunning views over the town.

Whitby harbour is steeped in history and visitors can see where British explorer Captain James Cook first worked as an apprentice before setting sail and discovering Australia. The harbour is a buzz of activity and you can enjoy early mornings watching the fishing boats come ashore before getting first choice of their catch. There's always something happening throughout the town , and festivals and fairs are held throughout the year including Whitby Goth Festival, Whitby Folk Week and the Whitby Regatta.

Reviews

Lovely cottage, basic clean facilities. Just a short walk to the cinder path into Whitby. Great to watch the birds and squirrels outside. Only downside is the steps up to the cottage, not for the faint hearted.

Previous Customer,

Squirrel Acres is a lovely rustic holiday cottage. Situated a little further out from Whitby a 25-30 minute walk down the cinder track into the town but with the added advantage of having beautiful scenic walks on the doorstep in the forest and down the Whitby/Scarborough cinder track. Watching the squirrels and birds everyday was wonderful. The host even supplied food for us to feed them. The cottage had all the equipment needed and a lovely log burner (logs provided) just what was needed on cold wintery nights. The host had even lit a fire for our arrival and provided milk and a welcome drinks.

Mrs B,

This cottage is lovely, in a great location and this was a return visit for us. It had everything we needed - but the bed/mattress needs replacing. (I really don’t remember it being so uncomfortable last time!)

Mr G,

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Squirrels Acre. Lovely location near the woods , ideal for dogs. Nice and quiet. Easy access into Whitby. The owner was very nice and helpful. Very comfortable accommodation. Would definitely stay again.

Mrs V,

Perfect location for a short stroll into Whitby via the cinder track. Cottage very clean and comfortable.

Mr C,

Lovely peaceful cottage and location, suitable for active people, definitely dog friendly.

Mrs C,

Thank you for an absolutely fantastic stay. Warm, comfortable, wildlife, situation and quirky, Squirrels Acres has it all. Just brilliant.

Past Customer,

We have enjoyed our week at Squirrels Acres cottage very much, a lovely quirky holiday rental in a super setting. We adored all the birds and squirrels visits and the pot of seed we could put out for them is a great thought - thank you. Well equipped and easy to live in, "out of the way" but so close to the wonderful town of Whitby and lots of walks to explore. Thank you.

Past Customer,

Lovely relaxing holiday, everything we needed for a great stay. Loved watching the many birds and squirrels. Our dog thought is was his duty to chase off the squirrels (didn't work though). All in all, a great time. Thanks.

Past Customer,

Thank you once again for our lovely stay at your cottage, love our balcony to relax with wine and a good book. See you soon.

Past Customer,

Very comfortable cottage with nearness to wildlife a bonus. A lovely setting.

Past Customer,

Everything was great, our host Jeff was very friendly, it was the most peaceful holiday we've ever had

Mrs G,

Fabulous location great cottage.shower unit small.and leather sofa.very tired and used.middle section sinking in . everything else perfect.

mrs D R,

Lovely, homely cottage in a fantastic location, close enough to walk into Whitby each day on the old railway (Cinder Track), a bit dated so would not suit everybody but this was not a problem for us, the wood burner when lit was fabulous on a cold frosty night. The only reason for a mid score was the internal pictures for the property need updating, not an issue just a suggestion.
