Description

This quaint seaside property sleeps up to four guests across two bedrooms. Built on a shingle stretch with sea views to the east and meadow views to the west, it’s the perfect location for getting away from the hustle and bustle of life. Watch the sunrise over the sea, or stargaze at night. Situated in Shingle Street, a rural coastal settlement in Suffolk, guests are 2 miles from the nearest village of Hollesley. This civil parish offers a shop, post office and pub with takeaway options. A little further away (4 miles) is another village called Alderton. This historic location has a manor house – Alderton Hall – that dates back to the 15th century with a secret passageway previously used by smugglers. The location is perfect to observe the abundance of wilflife in the area.

This authentic Victorian cottage offers a unique stay in a no frills basic accommodation. You enter the property on the ground-floor lobby with coat hooks and shoe storage space, and a bathroom just off from here. The open-plan kitchen/diner/lounge is fully equipped with cooking and cleaning appliances, a dining table and chairs, two wood burners, a sofa and two armchairs. Cosy up in front of the TV or become immersed in one of the many books from the bookshelves. Up on the first floor are the two bedrooms: a double with sea views and a twin with meadow views.

From the ground floor, there is a door leading to a walled courtyard and a terrace with a table and bench.

Reviews

We had another lovely stay here. The cottage is cosy and comfortable. By far the best thing about this property is the amazing location - so peaceful and beautiful.

Mrs F,

A wonderful weekend at this friendly cottage! We had a family holiday here 6 summers ago and it was lovely for us all to return - with teenagers this time! Number 6 doesn't change a bit, we love it. Shingle Street is so restful. Wilderness and walks on the doorstep - heard our first skylarks of the year too. (Thankyou for sharing your lovely cottage and providing short stays.)

Ms W,

A wonderful cottage, very warm and cosy, walking straight on to the beach. The view from the bedroom alone is worth the money. The children loved it especially the shells and outdoor space. Of all the Suffolk secrets cottages I have visited, this is the best. It might not be grey and minimalist, but it has bags of character and is obviously loved. The owner is charming and made us very welcome when he popped by.

Mrs P,

We had a brilliant time here. The location is beautiful, right on the beach and very peaceful. The sea views are great to wake up to. The cottage itself is comfortable and cosy. There is an open fireplace in the lounge area and a log burner in the kitchen area, as well as storage heaters and electric heaters. All the essentials are provided for cooking. The bathroom is downstairs and was very cold, there is a heater in there that can be put on whilst you use the room which does make it more bearable! Overall we loved our holiday here and hope to return.

Mrs F,

A wonderful retreat from the clang and drive of modern life. The simplicity of the cottage and there being no WIFi adds to the feeling of slowing down and living in a less hectic time. Once the fire is going it is so cosy ; we were there during a very cold spell in January. We left feeling relaxed and recharged. Will definitely return!

Mrs C,

No. 6 is very special. I have stayed there many times over the years. There is a beautiful atmosphere in the house...and of course when you step outside too.

Ms M M,

The best venue we've had from rented accommodation in all of my long life (I am in my 8th decade)

Ms C,

The location of this property is second to none opening out onto one of my favourite stretches of coastline. The cottage itself is slightly spartan with limited wifi (blessing and a curse!) but is great for a short break.

Ms J,

Lovely warm cottage, full of character and not over-modernised. Wonderful location - big waves, beautiful sunrises, peace and quiet and superb walks. A great place for a rest!

Rev E,
