Description

Set in the coastal town of Aldeburgh, this fantastic period property features three floors and plenty of social space for groups of up to six. Situated just metres from the high street, you have an array of attractive seafront buildings to admire, clothing and antique boutiques to browse, plus a pebble beach with fishermen’s huts selling their daily catch. Further afield, just under a mile away, is the pretty seaside village of Slaughden sat along the mouth of the River Blyth. There is a sailing club for budding captains, plus beautiful walking trails through the vale with stunning sea and estuary views.

On the ground floor, there is a living room, open-plan kitchen/diner and cloakroom. The comfortable lounge features a large bay window and window seat, along with a sofa and two armchairs, a coffee table, an open fire and a TV/DVD. Nearby is a handy cloakroom with a WC. Following on from here is the open-plan kitchen/diner with a modern, coastal style. The kitchen has plenty of worktop space, a Nespresso coffee machine, fitted units and a skylight window. The dining space offers a wooden table and bench, plus four chairs, perfect for sociable evening meals. Then there’s a sofa and Smart TV. Bi-fold doors open out to the courtyard garden. Up on the first floor, there are two bedrooms and a bathroom. The first bedroom features a double bed, bedside tables, and a dressing table with a chair. The second bedroom has twin beds. The bathroom has a shower over the bath and WC. A spiral staircase leads to the second floor with the final bedroom. It has a double bed, Velux window, bedside tables and cupboard space.

The decked outside area to the rear of the property is accessed via the dining room. It has decking, a BBQ and a corner wicker sofa and table – ideal for al fresco gatherings in the sunshine.

Shop 300 yards. Pub 300 yards. Short walk to the beach.

Why we love this property… the bifold doors leading from the kitchen/diner to the decked area make for easy family holiday living, great for children and dogs. And, it’s just a short walk from the beach - perfect!

Aldeburgh and the surrounding area has inspired many authors and poets in the past but the most famous son of the town is Benjamin Britten, who founded the Aldeburgh Music Festival, which now has worldwide acclaim and is held every year in June at Snape Maltings. Fishermen still pull their colourful boats up on the shingle beach and sell fresh fish from the picturesque huts. The wide, mainly Georgian high street has many attractive buildings whilst the seafront properties all have commanding views of the beach and the North Sea. Boating is popular on the nearby Alde estuary where a large variety of yachts can be seen at summer weekends. Aldeburgh is also home to one of the oldest golf clubs in Suffolk and has the added benefit of two courses which is perfect for visitors of the local area.

Reviews

The accommodation was perfect for our short stay, close enough to the beach, shops and dining without being overlooked by passers by. The heating was very responsive especially on chilly days and nights. The level of equipment, linen and towels was good. The stairs to the bedroom on the second floor, whilst being sturdy, are more suited for those who are more agile. The artwork throughout the cottage reflected a tasteful choice of subject and was a pleasant surprise to one of our party who has property in Elie.

Mr F,

A very comfortable house in a great location, with an extremely well equipped kitchen. Good size for 6 adults and very dog friendly. Nice space at the back with comfy outside sofas. Would definitely recommend.
