Description

Set within a lovely, rural village location, The Old Rectory offers guests a charming countryside getaway for 10. As you venture up the tree lined driveway, this beautifully grand home appears in all its glory, with original sash cord windows and cream stone exterior. The gorgeous garden wraps around the house and is full of mature trees, shrubs, and flower beds. In the Winter, delicate snowdrops create wonderful white carpets and come Summer, the garden is pebble-dashed in colourful wildflowers. Huddle together around the fire pit toasting marshmallows or good group sing-along! It really is the perfect countryside oasis, offering an ideal base to explore both Norfolk and Suffolk. Its location on the edge of Thurlton gives it a true rural feel but with the benefit of a shop and pub within 0.2 miles. There are more pubs and shops at Reedham (4 miles), a village on the Norfolk Broads, where you can also find an animal park, local brewery, and one of the last operational railway swing bridges in the country. If you fancy a day at the seaside, the coast is just 10 miles away with the resorts of Great Yarmouth (11 miles) and Lowestoft (12 miles) within easy reach. Alternatively, head to the fine city of Norwich (14 miles) to explore the castle, two cathedrals, medieval lanes and independent shops, pubs and restaurants.

The Old Rectory offers guests a very generous home with plenty of living space to be together. The formal sitting room is beautiful and bright and has French doors leading out the garden. A further snug sitting room is equipped with roaring wood burner, television, and comfy sofa, creating the ideal space to unwind in. The property also boasts a large, fully fitted kitchen with plenty of space to prepare some delicious meals and adjacent, is the dining room, once used as the Parish meeting room, with seating for all to dine together.

Upstairs, there is accommodation for 10 guests in five lovely bedrooms. Two have their very own ensuite facilities, with a further two bathrooms available too. This magnificent home is the ideal retreat to enjoy some quality time together!

Reviews

We loved the house it suited exactly what we required as a family

Mrs W,

The Old Rectory was an amazing property to spend time with a large family group. The property was much larger than we anticipated from the photos. The property was also very well equipped.

Mrs M,

We had a lovely trip to the old rectory. There are however a few things that would have improved our stay. The tree house looks to be dangerous - the supports look rotten and some of the foot holds on the tree are loose; the barbeque grill was mouldy which was disappointing; there was no door mat at the back door so it was difficult to keep the kitchen floor clean; the drinking water tasted dreadful which we think was due to a water softener; there is a lack of garden furniture - the description says sleeps 10 but there are only 6 outside chairs.

Mr David M,

Overall, The Old Rectory was a great property for our holiday, was comfortable and in a good location. However, there were a few issues with the property which could be rectified fairly easily and would enhance the quality feel of the house: 1. A fuse tripped when a light switch in the kitchen was switched on plunging us in to darkness. We placed tape over the switch we think may be faulty. Fortunately some of our party were fit and able enough to reach the fuse box, which requires mountaineering skills to reach! 2. No oven gloves provided. Not safe to use tea towels, so we had to buy our own oven gloves. 3. Inadequate quantity of tea plates, crockery a bit of a mismatch and glasses quite scratched. Some restocking would enhance the 'quality' feel of the property for very little investment. 4. The extractor fan in the kitchen did not work. 5. Electric oven is not a fan oven and wasn't cooking at the temperature the oven displayed. 6. On arrival there wasn't a toilet roll in every toilet - seems rather mean. On the positive side, we did enjoy the welcome pack of local produce. The reason I have scored Original Cottages itself so low was due to one of your customer service representatives putting the phone down on me without me having chance to finish my sentence! I was absolutely horrified that she would do that to a customer. I have never experienced this response from any other holiday cottage company I have booked with, and there are plenty to choose from, so I would not recommend to anyone else.

Mrs Pauline Q,

Excellent secluded location, spacious and comfortable. The sheer size of the house and plot makes you feel like your staying in a your own private estate, with its long driveway and grand entrance. The property had a personal touch and family friendly feel. The views are wonderful and the village and church is a short walk away. Access to the broads and coast is an easy option for a trip out or a rural walk. My family and i felt very relaxed during our time at the rectory and we all slept very well

Past Customer,

We spent an incredible Christmas at the property. It had everything we could have wished for and had plenty of space for all 10 of us. We fell in love with the place.
