Description

Granary Cottage, and its neighbouring property Dairy Cottage, is situated on the outskirts of Exmoor National Park near a village called Swimbridge and is surrounded by stunning countryside.

Sleeping four people, this characterful cottage has beamed ceilings and wooden floors, a cosy living room and a private lawned garden. The nearest pub is just 300 yards away and there are plenty of pathways and bridleways running near the cottage. The living room is on the first floor and benefits from lovely views over the nearby fields and plenty of comfortable seating. A pretty single bedroom is also on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a well-equipped kitchen/diner which has an electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. The modern family bathroom has a shower over the bath. And a double bedroom with an additional single z-bed complete the accommodation.

Outside, the private, fully enclosed garden has a lawn and patio with garden furniture – perfect for an evening meal overlook the stunning countryside. Swimbridge is about four miles south-east of Barnstaple and twinned with the town of St. Honorine Du Fay in Normandy, France. It the home of the Rev. John “Jack” Russell who developed the Jack Russell terrier and is noted for its church - The Church of St. James -  which has been described as a “treasure house” due to its fine carvings and memorials.

Nearby Barnstaple is well worth a visit - it is a charming place that comfortably blends a handsome past with an energetic, present-day buzz. It has a mix of cutting-edge retail outlets, long-established family owned stores and little boutiques. The pannier market hosts local food producers interspersed with dozens of cafes. At weekends, Barnstaple makes wandering the streets a distinct pleasure, with performers and musicians out to entertain.

Ms B,

Very quiet location, no local amenities. Really nice pub Jack Russell. Good location for touring the area

Mr F,

The cottage was just right for our needs. It was warm, comfortable and had everything we needed. The welcoming cream tea was an added bonus.

Ms H,

We spent a good week in this quiet and comfortable cottage. We enjoyed visits to Barnstaple and other local places, but also spent a lot of time relaxing at the cottage and recharging our batteries. A very peaceful holiday - just what we needed.

Mrs H,

Lovely cottage, owners very nice and helpful but did not interfere with stay. Would recommend to anyone.

Mrs A,

Great location to explore North Devon. Lovely friendly village. Very nice owners and amazing cream tea.

Mrs W,

Website was out of date regarding distance of local shop from property - the local shop had shut down some time ago so there was not a shop within a mile as stated on the website. Otherwise, the property was excellent.

Mrs Judy N,

The cottage was very clean with all equipment. The owner was very helpful and has given us local information. There is garden too and my sons love the cottage.

Mr R,

A lovely cottage with character in a quiet, peaceful spot in an attractive village. It was a perfect location from which to explore the beautiful area of North Devon. It was a joy to meet the owners, friendly and on hand if needed, but in no way intrusive.
