Description

Sleeping up to 3 guests and set in a tranquil location in Iken, this delightful and welcoming barn conversion is one of a collection of barns converted from a range of former farm buildings, making the perfect getaway for a small family, couple or friends. This beautiful holiday home is ideal for couples, friends, or small families and offers a truly unique and idyllic location, set on the banks of the River Alde. Just moments from the door, a walk through the communal gardens, takes you down to the waters edge of the river. You're sure to be wowed by the surroundings here, whether you want to sit on the sandy banks of the river and bird-watch or seal-spot, or take the scenic circular riverside walk which passes Iken Church and takes you to Snape Maltings. In the other direction, you can enjoy peaceful views towards Tunstall Forest 3.3 miles away - again, this is a perfect spot for both walkers or cyclists to explore. Golfers can tee off at Thorpeness Golf Club (9 miles), or make plans to visit the famous Snape Maltings Concert Hall in the evening, just 2 miles away. Head for the beach at Aldeburgh (8 miles) where you can enjoy delicious fish and chips and explore the old buildings lining the seafront. Enjoy a day trip to Orford (5 miles away by car or cycle), a quintessential Suffolk village which is steeped in history - visit the fascinating Orford Castle, scenic quay, and finish off with a spot of lunch at one of the local pubs or restaurants.

Enter the single-storey property and find the welcoming lounge/kitchen/diner. Relax on the sofa in front of the TV or prepare a tasty meal in the bright kitchen area, where exposed beams lend a homely atmosphere. In the first bedroom, find a king-size bed with a charming wrought iron bedstead and an exposed brick feature wall. The cosy single bedroom is the perfect place to retire to, after a day of sightseeing. Down the hallway, there is a spacious contemporary bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC.

Guests enjoy access to there own private patio area with garden furniture, and beyond this are delightful communal gardens which boast beautiful river views and lead down to provide direct access to the sandy banks of the River Alde.

Iken is a reputed base of Boudica and the marauding Iceni tribes who made good use of the commanding position on the south side of the Alde Estuary. Later, in 869AD, a Viking sailing fleet destroyed the 7th Century monastery at Iken. In the 19th Century sailing barges used the river to trade corn and coal between Snape, London and the east coast ports. Now, you will see the occasional pleasure boat whilst taking in the highly regarded SSSI wildlife habitat and the stunning estuary scenery. Views span from the 7th Century St Butolphs Church, standing on a promontory of higher ground, to the former maltings at Snape which are now vibrant with the sounds of the famous concert hall.

Reviews

Great location for Suffolk. Cottage itself in a lovely area and well appointed. Quiet and lovely access to walks and the estuary.

Mrs C,

Very well appointed and a great location. Fantastic walking and brilliant with our lively puppy. The underfloor heating was such a treat. I would definitely recommend it and would come again.
