Description

South Lodge West dates back to 1847 and was designed by well-known architect, S. S. Teulon. After some years of disrepair, the lodge has been restored and once again stands as sentinel, along with South Lodge East (ref:2026), to Holkham Hall on the Holkham Estate. The perfect retreat for a wander down to the beach during the Summer months or to cosy up inside by the wood burner during the cooler climes. There’s a petite kitchen area with microwave, kettle and toaster otherwise encouraging you to enjoy the delicious and plentiful eateries of Wells, The Burnhams and beyond. Relaxing and switching off from the everyday is difficult to resist. If you’re feeling energetic, explore the far-reaching parkland that will be on your doorstep; ideal for long walks or cycling around the lake whilst the deer herd look on, with bike hire available on the Estate. Reviews

Comfortable and bijou, with everything you need for a long weekend. Fantastic access to all the facilities and grounds of the Estate. Beautifully quiet and dark at night, we’ll definitely book again.

Mr P,

The cottage was just as described and in a wonderful setting.

Mr T,

An ideal base for exploring Holkham and the surrounding area

Mr S,

Lovely, cosy lodge, well equipped. Really comfortable bed. We had a great 3 night stay.

Mr G,

Booked for our son's wedding at the Marble hall at Holkham which was fantastic. We loved being on the estate in our own cosy lodge. The cottage was very clean and well equipped and a lovely touch with the welcome pack, beds were super comfortable too. The cottage was much bigger than we expected , nice to have a the water softener too. Location - just spoilt for choice, hired E-bikes for most of our stay and cycled to Wells next the Sea. Wood burner was great, felt like a real home from home. Estate staff were super friendly and helpful, a hidden gem! We will be back!

Past Customer,

This is a lovely property, just the right size for 2 (and a dog). It was nice and clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The location is great - good places on the doorstep for walking the dog and an enclosed garden (although not accessible directly from the property). Lots of dog friendly eateries nearby. The Victoria was lovely with great food and friendly staff. The Golden Fleece in Wells also served great food and staff were really nice. Lots to do in the surrounding area and lots to see in Holkham itself too.

Mrs S,

Loved the cottage in a beautiful location. It was lovely, clean and comfortable and the food gifts were appreciated. It was a pleasure to stay in such an historical setting and we will hopefully return. Thank you.

Mrs Jacqueline S,

Very impressed with the communication and clear instructions from this company

Mrs Joanne H,

WiFi connection very unreliable. My husband connected to South Lodge East; I had no connection..one night no tv connection. Coffee table in sitting area past sell by date. Would have been nice to have cooker hob and larger freezer space. (Corner where fridge is could house small fridge freezer if the small bit of work top removed. Overall very pleased, thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

Previous Customer,

We loved the location and the area was great for dogs and walking. We also were glad of the parking/hotel and shops discount card and the free electric charging point. Down side - no direct access to the garden, meant coat and shoes and leads on dogs first thing to get them outside. No oven meant having to eat out a lot, although the Victoria does do lovely meals.

Mrs Sue C,

I don't remember seeing that the wifi was dial up only when we booked but really not worth having. The book that provides details of the cottage stated something about making sure you log out of netflix if you use it but I'm not sure how anyone could use netflix on the tv currently in the cottage, not sure if has recently been changed so maybe it should be updated. The food package that greeted us was nice but would have be good to include some milk although I appreciate not everyone drinks milk these days so a difficult one to balance. If asked then yes I would but it's not something I tend to do just in case what I experience is not what they experience.

Mr Caroline H,

With the location this would be an ideal luxury break. The goodie box was a waste of time with no essentials, not even milk. A small combined oven hob would have been useful. The sofa was awful. I understand location as a selling point but a few little changes and I would be coming back time and time again,

Mr Mark P,

Over bombarded with unnecessary emails and texts! Especially regarding the time to leave by, on our last day!!!

Mr David C,

The lodge was very clean, the bed and bedding very comfortable and luxurious. The kitchen area was small which was a shame but, if you're not intending to cook or, you arrive in summer months, eating outside would be fine. The estate is beautiful and all staff we met were really helpful and friendly.

Mrs Lynne W,

There was no hob or oven and this should have been made clear at the outset.

Mr Arnold W,

Truly delighted!

Mrs Claire P,
