Cottages in Matlock

Matlock is a beautiful historic spa town in the heart of Derbyshire and right on the doorstep of the southern Peak District. Being in such a central location within the region, many flock to Matlock as the ideal place to base themselves on their Peak District holiday, but the town itself and its surrounding countryside also have more than enough to keep you amused during your stay. Our range of holiday cottages in Matlock include riverside apartments, lets tucked away in the hills above, large cottages for big groups and holiday homes in nearby Matlock Bath.

As one of our largest collections in our Peak District Cottages range, our Matlock properties are also some of our most diverse and unique holiday homes in the region. The majority of our cottages come with an open fire or woodburner, many are dog-friendly and there are also a few select luxury cottages too. So live it up in luxury, or go back in time in a historic cottage all of your own, the choice is yours!

Matlock is a bustling town lined with shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes, bakeries and more. There is plenty to see, do (and eat) in the town centre to while away a day or two, but the true gems of Matlock lie just outside the town. The first that always springs to mind is Lumsdale Falls, also known as Matlock waterfall. The Lumsdale Falls on the edge of Matlock is a secret little valley with two mill ponds and lots of old industrial revolution tiny mills, said to be inhabited by fairies. The water cascades down over the rocks between the old ruined buildings and the sunlight shining through the trees is fantastic. Finish the day off by calling at the tiny Bentley Brook Brewery at the bottom for a fantastic Real Ale.

To get a truly spectacular perspective on Matlock and the Derwent Valley, head to the Heights of Abraham cable cars. Taking you over their stunning 60 acre Hilltop Park, the cable cars are a truly unique way to see this beautiful part of Derbyshire, and the fun doesn’t end there. There are also lots of dog-friendly walking routes through the park, an adventure playground, the aptly named Vista Restaurant with amazing views and lots, lots more.

Another gem in Matlock’s crown is the historic Cromford Mills. Created by the renowned innovator of the industrial era, Sir Richard Arkwright, today Cromford Mills has been converted into a heritage centre and shopper’s paradise. With a range of family-friendly historic tours and exhibitions, antique centre, Countryside Books, Netty Reddish (locally handcrafted gifts), and Cheese shop, there is something for everyone at Cromford Mills.

As it is situated on the Derwent Canal, Cromford Mills is also the ideal spot from which to start a walk. One of the most popular walks is the 5 mile route from Cromford Wharf to Ambergate, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Here, you can look out for a range of wildlife, including water voles and ducks. The team at Cromford Mills have also made the canal accessible to everyone by offering Trampers (all terrain mobility scooters) for hire from the mill.

We also have cottages available in the nearby popular spots of Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne and many others – Derbyshire is your oyster!
