This snug bolthole on the edge of the beautiful Peak District National Park, is perfect for a couple who love the great outdoors. Boasting wonderful scenic walks close by and an array of independent shops to browse at Matlock (1 mile) and neighbouring Matlock Bath (2 miles) as well as plenty of delightful eateries. Dramatic Lumsdale Falls, whose waters once powered cotton mills in the Derwent Valley, are within 1.5 miles, as is Sir Richard Arkwright’s imposing 18th-century spinning mill, now a fascinating textile museum. Stroll along the River Derwent in Matlock Bath and take the cable car up the steep, wooded hillside to the Heights of Abraham, with magnificent views across the valley. Take a trip through time across the open countryside on a vintage tram at Crich Tramway Village (5.5 miles) and visit the beautiful, medieval Haddon Hall and splendid Chatsworth House, both within a 9.5-mile drive.

Enter the front door into the welcoming living room, with ceiling beams above and far-reaching countryside views from the window. Light the wood burner, set in an impressive stone chimney breast, and relax on the comfortable leather sofa and chair, flanked by cushions. Lamps and mirrors enhance the homely cottage atmosphere. There’s a Smart TV for entertainment and a wooden dining table sits at one end of the room, ideal for cosy meals. The separate galley kitchen, also with original ceiling beams, houses a country dresser and is well-stocked with all you need to whip up tasty dishes. Stairs from the kitchen lead to a small, first-floor landing and a charming, vintage-style double bedroom with a pretty Victorian headboard and matching white wardrobe and chest of drawers. Next door is the pretty bathroom, with a free-standing clawfoot bathtub and shower over.

Outside, a small sitting area to the side of the cottage features bistro-style furniture alongside plants in pots.

Had a lovely stay here with our dog. Cottage had everything we needed and was lovely and cool in the hot weather. The pub down the road was great for a drink but unfortunately it does not serve food. It is a 15 minute walk across the path to Matlock Bath which has a good selection of cafes and pubs and more fish and chip shops than we have ever seeRead moren. Only thing missing was a small convenience store, we had to go to Matlock for that. One word of caution is that the path is quite steep and not pushchair friendly in places. You can walk to Matlock in 40 minutes and it has everything you might need. It was a great base for our first trip to this area and would definitely recommend the property. Hide

This cottage has been renovated with a lot of care and thought and is cozy yet stylish, feels homely yet not cluttered, uses clever ideas to enhance light etc etc! It looks right over to the Heights of Abraham and in fact you can walk down to the cable car entrance in only 11 minutes! Also a beautiful walk across High Tor gardens into Matlock itseRead morelf as the road is busy. The level of cleanliness was really five star plus and also the thoughtfulness as to what is provided.(for example a full picnic set.) The bed is really comfortable with high-quality linen. The owners are available and communicative, offer their phone number and are super helpful. Hide

Lovely cottage. Very quaint and very warm! Logs for the fire were lovely. The house is gorgeous. We loved it. However our dogs are escape artists and could get over the low wall in the garden.

There was a major fireworks display on the three nights we stayed, this was not good considering we have dogs. We should have been warned so we could have chosen a different cottage . The road was very busy and noisy at times so you need to make this clear. It was neither relaxing or romantic.

We had a nice time here. The cottage is very well equipped and has a nice, homely feel. The bed is very comfortable and the bath a welcome extra bonus. The location is perfect to make trips to the highlights in Derbyshire and the Peak District. The only disappointing thing was the fairly busy road alongside the cottage.

Absolutely loved this cottage. Clean, quaint and cosy. Lovely comfy bed, amazing shower! And all the stuff you need to self cater. We will definitely book again. Just be aware though, the very, local pub, no longer serves food, so dont rock up like we did at 5pm expecting to be fed. Julie the host was also very lovely, 100% would recommend

Nicely kitted out and very pretty inside but a bit chilly and there were no instructions to adjust the heating. The bathroom door would not shut so using the loo and having a bath (lovely big bath) was a bit drafty. Only one match in the matchbox - luckily I only needed one!
