Sandsend cottages
The iconic abbey ruins and pier of near-neighbour Whitby are visible from the seafront, but the slower pace of life in Sandsend makes this pretty village seem a world away. A haven of peace on the coastal edge of the North York Moors, Sandsend is the perfect choice for a battery recharging break with family or friends. Stroll around the nearby woodlands, or spend happy hours simply pottering. Sandsend’s reputation as a fine food hub will ease the effort of every self-catering holiday, but it’s the beach that remains Sandsend’s biggest attraction. Paddle in the shallows, explore the rockpools, try your hand at fossil hunting or, when the tide is out, walk along the sands to Whitby. If pets are included in your holiday party, one end of the beach is dog-friendly all year.
Sandsend sits along the Cleveland Way – follow it along the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast to Whitby and enjoy the town’s heritage-rich harbour, gothic yards, cobbled streets and traditional seaside attractions. In the other direction, Runswick Bay is characterised by charming red-roofed cottages that cling to the hillside above a sweeping, sheltered bay. The sandy beach, where dogs are always welcome, is a favourite for old-fashioned family fun. Further on, Staithes, has winding cobbled streets, charming 18th-century cottages and a fish smokehouse, while inland the National Park Centre at Danby is an ideal starting point for day trips in the North York Moors. Check out our fantastic collection of Sandsend cottages and find your perfect self-catering holiday on the Yorkshire coast.
