Less than 200 metres from Sandsend Beach and just 3 miles from the popular seaside town of Whitby, this delightful former school house-turned-cottage invites families or groups of friends for a peaceful getaway. Where the North York Moors meet the coast, this is a fantastic base for walking and cycling – both along the coast and into the countryside. The host village of Sandsend boasts a good choice of coastal cafes, pubs and fish and chip shops. For more seaside charm, head to Whitby where vibrant streets of intendent shops, restaurants and pubs await, as well as a sandy beach and the dramatic ruins of Whitby Abbey. There are many other beautiful locations to discover including Runswick Bay (5.5 miles), Staithes (7.5 miles), the lovely village of Robin Hood's Bay (8 miles), and Scarborough (21 miles) with its many seaside attractions and fantastic choice of beaches.

This three-bedroomed holiday cottage has been completely refurbished into a beautiful retreat, perfect for those who love to feel the sand between their toes just minutes from the door. The interior style is like a rustic city apartment meets seaside chic – expect whitewashed wooden panels, chic artwork on the walls and modern comforts all in one. The social heart of the home is the delightful and airy, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with its double-height ceiling and original walls. In the lounge space, take your pick of three sumptuous sofas set around a Smart TV and a crackling wood burner – the perfect ingredients for a cosy movie night together. When stomachs start to rumble, walk around to the well-appointed kitchen with its sleek units and kitchen island that offer plenty of space for whipping up memorable holiday meals. Gather at the rustic dining table nearby to enjoy the chef’s work or take your plates out to the garden to dine alfresco at the picnic bench. When it’s time to sleep, choose from three wonderful bedrooms, two at ground level, the third upstairs. On the ground floor, a well-equipped family bathroom serves a super-king-size room and a welcoming twin, both with seaside vibes and comfortable beds. The third bedroom takes up the entire first floor – a spacious king-size room with a separate seating area and an en-suite bathroom that completes the interior.

Outside you'll find a picnic table to the front of the property and a decked BBQ area to the rear to enjoy. If the sound of the distant waves doesn’t charm you, then your peaceful, verdant surroundings certainly will.

Lovely location, the property would be challenging for anyone with mobility issues or small children using the upstairs bedroom and bathroom, as the stairs are very steep and there are awkward steps in the bedroom. Also outside there are steps front and back. The garden is raised at the back and difficult to climb. The cottage is light and airRead morey with comfortable furnishings. Its a bit tired, but could be classed as shabby chic! Hide

Beautiful location but the property is very tired and could do with updating.

What an absolute gem the cottage is and so is the location. If you book here you will not be disappointed. Wonderful owner at hand if needed. Beautiful walks on the door step. I very much hope to be back soon.

Great location tucked away in a quiet corner of Sandsend yet close enough to walk down to the sea. Plenty of space for us and ideal for dogs given the woods and access to the beach at low tide. Very easy access to Whitby and the wide North Yorkshire area.

Cottage really quirky but very comfortable beds and sofas. Upstairs bedroom and bathroom reached via steep narrow stairs and large steps so not suitable for anyone with mobility problems

The Schoolhouse has a lot of character, is in a great location, and the hosts could not be more helpful. Rosie and Daryl made sure we had everything we needed, and Rosie was very considerate and helpful when one of our group was not well. The location is perfect for exploring the beautiful coastline from Runswick Bay to Whitby. The house is also veRead morery well equipped and the welcome basket very generous (and was appreciated!). Thanks to Daryl and Rosie for a lovely stay. Hide
