Cottages in Weymouth

Our self-catering properties in Weymouth put you in a prime location for exploring this active coastal town. Just a stone’s throw away from the beautiful Isle of Portland and right next to the world-famous Chesil Beach, Weymouth is a great place to settle in on your Dorset holiday adventure.

With cottages in Weymouth centre, Overcombe, Melcombe Regis, Broadway, Redlands and Langton Herring, we have no shortage of options when it comes to choosing holiday homes in this area. We also have holiday lets in Rodwell and Wyke Regis, which are very near to Portland. Bringing the dogs along too? Well, you’ll be pleased to hear that almost half our Weymouth holiday cottages are pet-friendly, as is Weymouth Beach, which even has a designated dog exercise area!

Weymouth was made famous over 200 years ago by none other than King George III himself, who visited the seaside town often to bathe in its waters, which were said to have medicinal powers. The town was then developed into a thriving tourist centre, with places to stay and attractions being built as early as the late 1700s. If local history is something that fascinates you, then be sure to visit Weymouth Museum, located in Brewers Quay, a Grade II-listed Victorian brewery. Brewers Quay is also home to a range of restaurants, cafes and bars, so you can really make a day out of your trip.

Weymouth has had a series of resurgences since its birth as a resort in the 1700s, the most recent being a spike in its popularity after it hosted the sailing events in the 2012 London Olympics. Since then, visitors have become more aware of Weymouth’s sports scene and many holidaymakers flock here to try something new and exciting. Horse riding is very popular in Weymouth and there are a range of equestrian centres that offer lessons and trekking tours across the region. Rosewall Equestrian Centre in Osmington Mills is always popular and is accessible to all, as it is part of the Riding for the Disabled Association. For those who seek water-based thrills, Weymouth Watersports offer paddleboarding and kayaking training and tours, or just hire for those who are experienced with this sort of equipment.

Weymouth’s main attraction is, however, its coastline. Chesil Beach is possibly Weymouth’s most famous beach, made popular by Ian McEwan’s 2007 novella ‘On Chesil Beach’. The beautiful scenes of the beach were promoted in the 2017 film adaptation of the book, which saw Chesil Beach become the main focus of the big screen. Aside from the silver screen, Chesil Beach is part of the Dorset National Landscape and has lots of wildlife and natural beauty to discover. The Chesil Beach Centre is run by the Dorset Wildlife Trust and has some great tips on wildlife spotting in the area and an on-site cafe. You can also follow the South West Coast Path from here, behind the shingle beachfront, to explore the Fleet Nature Reserve.

Inland, you can head to the fascinating town of Dorchester; steeped in history and culture, it's a lovely place to while away a day, or base yourselves there for your holiday in one of our Dorchester cottages. Bridport, too, hosts a wonderful selection of Bridport holiday cottages, and here you'll be within easy reach of the delights Charmouth (7 miles) and Lyme Regis (10 miles).
