Cottages in Tideswell

Known as the Gateway to the Peak District, Tideswell is the perfect holiday destination for those who are looking for a break in the great outdoors. Are you looking for a large cottage that sleeps 8, or a bolthole for two? A dog-friendly let, or somewhere with a garden? Perhaps you’re looking for a few of these treasures, in which case you’ve come to the right place! Our holiday cottages in Tideswell cater for a range of holiday needs, as well as being completely adorable, comfortable and well looked after.

Tideswell is a pretty village with a friendly local community and interesting history. Its most notable landmark is the Church of St John the Baptist, also known as The Cathedral of the Peaks. It is the largest church in the Peak District and was mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The church in its current form was built in the 14th century and is pretty spectacular both inside and out. It is free to enter the church and visitors are always surprised by how lovely it is and how many fascinating artefacts and works of art lay inside.

Tideswell is also known across Derbyshire for its spectacular displays of Well Dressing during late June. Well Dressing is just one of the town’s ‘Wakes Week’ celebrations. Wakes Week begins on the Saturday closest to the day of St John the Baptist and sees a series of community led events to mark the occasion, including the crowning of the Wakes Queen and Rosebud Princess, who then act as young ambassadors for the village for the next year. On the last day of events there is a torchlight procession through the town, with the Tideswell village band playing while people Morris Dance to the Tidza Processional.

Naturally, Tideswell is also known for its fantastic local walks. One thing is for sure about a trip to Tideswell, however, and that is that you will leave with a big smile on your face and lasting memories of this friendly village.

Of course, Tideswell is one of the many areas covered by our Derbyshire cottage collection. Why not book a stay with us in Bakewell, Buxton, Youlgreave or further afield in the Peak District?
