Cottages in Kniveton

Nestled in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales is the idyllic village of Kniveton. Our Kniveton cottages are full of character and include traditional stone cottages and innovative barn conversions. Many are dog-friendly and, perhaps most importantly, they’re all within a very short walk of the centre of the village and its pub.

Kniveton is very small and quiet, but has a lovely historic church at its centre, as well as The Red Lion pub. The Red Lion offers some smashing pub grub, local ales and ciders and is very  accommodating to pets and children. Carsington Water, one of south Derbyshire’s biggest attractions, is very close by. Here, there are lots of watersports on offer, including fly fishing, canoeing, rowing, paddleboarding and sailing and there is also cycle hire. The 7.5. mile circular walk around the water’s edge is also a great way to stretch your legs and is very popular with dog walkers.

Kniveton is also near Ashbourne, a stunning Georgian and Tudor heritage town, as seen in its architecture. Ashbourne has many historic buildings including almshouses, The Old Grammar School and St Oswalds’ Church, which is visible from many points in the town. Ashbourne also annually holds the legendary Royal Shrovetide Football Match, which has been going since 1667, so if you’re here in early spring be sure not to miss it!
