Springbank is an utterly wonderful mellow stone cottage on the hillside above Matlock with fantastic views across the Derwent Valley. It provides lots of spacious, quality accommodation with oak floors, shuttered windows and a glowing log burning stove.  Combine this with dramatic Little Greene decoration, luxurious furnishings and lovely paintings and prints to make a really incredible holiday retreat.

Spend sunny days on the loungers in the lovely terraced garden that stretches up the hillside, just gazing at the view. Set off on the numerous footpaths along the valley or up into the woodlands on Matlock Moor. Get your cycle from the store and head for the High Peak or Tissington Trails to pedal across the Peaks. Or perhaps just drop down into Matlock or nearby Bakewell to explore all the local shops, pubs and restaurants.

With even wider horizons there are lots more holiday attractions. It's got to be magnificent Chatsworth House, Bakewell's famous Monday market and Victorian Buxton. Some local favourites include Monsal Dale's dramatic gorge, Calver Edge's breath-taking views, Peak Rail's steam trains, Crich's nostalgic tramway and Carsington's wild water sports. Springbank is a beautiful spacious cottage. Very clean and nicely decorated. Plenty of amenities provided. Very comfortable for 5 adults. The Cottage would be great for large families or groups. Will definitely stay here again for family trip. The drive is steep, however, you do get the knack of it after a couple times parking. We had a really lovely stay at Springbank Cottage. It is well-situated for exploring the Peak District, and the shops nearby at Matlock made it convenient too. The cottage is spacious, well-equipped, and comfortable. We all enjoyed having barbecues on the terrace, with views along and across the valley. This is a wonderful property for a family stay. Very spacious, comfortable and well equipped in the kitchen. My family and I spent a week here and had a wonderful time catching up with family and friends who lived nearby. The location is a short drive into Matlock; the walk into town is just over 30 minutes although I would recommend a taxi back duRead moree to the hills! The area is steeped in history and we were spoilt for choice in finding interesting things to do: Heights of Abraham; Chatsworth House; Peak District Mining Museum in Matlock; Cromford Mills; we even ventured to Alton Towers and Dovedale for a hike although the stepping stones were impassable due to flooding. We had also booked to see the Matlock illuminations but unfortunately this was also cancelled due to Storm Babet and the high water levels. We ate out a few times in Matlock - recommend Spice (Indian restaurant), Thai no1 and Buddys. The Remarkable Hare was our pub of choice. Back at the house, just 10 minutes down the Lane was a local pub which we also visited. Parking on the drive can be tricky due to the steepness, and I wouldnt recommend this property if you have mobility issues for this reason, but for anyone else its a definite winner! Hide

Springbank was an absolutely stunning property. The photos do not do it justice. The rooms are large and airy, and appear much bigger than the photos. We felt let down by the number of toilet rolls (1 per bathroom for 6 people for three nights was not enough). We were only given 1 dishwasher tablet, and a minuscule amount of dish liquid, we had toRead more go out and purchase extra for our stay. There were no dishclothes available to use to wipe down counters. All in all a wonderful property, with just a few niggles. Garden had everything needed and the views made up for the weather not being on our side for the weekend. Beds were very comfy, and the bath was a hit with our group! Hide

Lovely house, clean and nicely decorated and tasteful art. Fantastic views over the valley and along to High Tor and the Heights of Abraham. Well equipped, (good maps too) but we would have liked a cafetiere as we don't like the wastefulness of the Nespresso capsules. Also we always find that the pans in houses for 6 adults aren't big enough for coRead moreoking a full meal (or perhaps we just eat too much!). The beds were very comfortable. We felt it was a little mean for a property at this level to have left so little toilet roll, kitchen roll and firewood. Also it would have been handy to know where we could buy more firewood and kindling. Although it warmed up so we didn't need it! We didn't spot a CO2 monitor but guess there must be one somewhere. We loved having places to sit outside and were luck enough to be able to take advantage of them. Maybe there needs to be clearer instructions re where to leave bins for collection as one wasn't collected? Thanks though, we had a great holiday. Hide
