Springbank is an utterly wonderful mellow stone cottage on the hillside above Matlock with fantastic views across the Derwent Valley. It provides lots of spacious, quality accommodation with oak floors, shuttered windows and a glowing log burning stove.  Combine this with dramatic Little Greene decoration, luxurious furnishings and lovely paintings and prints to make a really incredible holiday retreat.

Spend sunny days on the loungers in the lovely terraced garden that stretches up the hillside, just gazing at the view. Set off on the numerous footpaths along the valley or up into the woodlands on Matlock Moor. Get your cycle from the store and head for the High Peak or Tissington Trails to pedal across the Peaks. Or perhaps just drop down into Matlock or nearby Bakewell to explore all the local shops, pubs and restaurants.

With even wider horizons there are lots more holiday attractions. It's got to be magnificent Chatsworth House, Bakewell's famous Monday market and Victorian Buxton. Some local favourites include Monsal Dale's dramatic gorge, Calver Edge's breath-taking views, Peak Rail's steam trains, Crich's nostalgic tramway and Carsington's wild water sports. After a hard day exploring have the last glass of an evening in the peace and quiet of the garden and watch the sun setting over the hills!

Our short stay in this beautiful holiday home was perfect from start to finish. Springbank was spotless, stylishly decorated, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we could need, with very comfortable beds, and sofas that we found hard to leave. We have stayed in many holiday homes, but we cant remember one that felt as much like a true home away from home as Spring Bank. We left feeling refreshed and planning our return. Hide

The house is absolutely gorgeous! It has everything in you would need and the little touches there are lovely (my two boys loved the jam-thank you). The kitchen is huge with so much space and love the island in the middle. The utility room is excellent. Lovely big dining room and lounge so comfortable. The bedrooms are huge and beds really comfortRead moreable. Bathrooms also excellentloved the bath. There is actually nothing about the house I could fault. The seating area is higher up and gives lovely views and again very comfortable. Parking on the drive is on a steep high incline but I didnt have any problems with it all and very easy once used to it. My dad parked on the road. The only down side for my parents is the incline getting to the house from the road but thats only because my mum struggles due to age. A pub is open Thursday to Sunday and within walking distance, which is ran by a very friendly man. Would definitely return as it is such a nice house with lovely views. Hide

This beautiful and well-kept cottage is larger than the photos imply. We loved the massive kitchen space, well stocked with very large double oven/ 7 hob stove and all the cookware you could wish for and a separate dining room with lovely big table. The views from the house are lovely overlooking the valley and there are hill walks everywhere you look. Cottage has multiple guides and maps. Couldnt ask for a better stay.
