Cottages in Mortehoe

On the North Devon Heritage coastline and just inland from Morte Point from which it takes its name is the village of Mortehoe.

Situated between Ilfracombe and Woolacombe, Mortehoe sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Much of the land is owned by the National Trust and the cliffs to the west have been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the rich and varied fauna and flora. The stunning scenery of Lee Bay is just 3.5 miles away (take a look at our Lee Bay cottages if you'd like to base yourself here).

Mortehoe is a pretty stone and slate village well served with pubs and tea rooms. There is a thirteenth century church and the Mortehoe Heritage Centre is well worth a visit. This recounts Mortehoe’s rich maritime history, linked as it is to the sea and the treacherous rocks and currents off Morte Point, responsible for many a shipwreck.

Easy to reach on foot from the village is the dramatic Rockham beach, access to which has not been possible until recently. Now after a long period of closure, the National Trust has replaced the once washed away steps making it possible again to visit this spectacular area. From Rockham Bay you can follow the coastal path to Morte Point where there are fabulous views from here towards Woolacoombe and Baggy Point and the sharp eyed might even spot a seal or two.

With Woolacombe less than a mile away (and home to our Woolacombe holiday cottages) and Ilfracombe only six miles away in the opposite direction, Mortehoe is the perfect location from which to explore this beautiful area.

We have a selection of lovely properties in Mortehoe, either tucked away in the heart of the village or in an elevated position and enjoying the most spectacular sea views. Or expand your search to view all of our North Devon cottages.
