Vibrant Newquay, voted, “Best Family Holiday Destination” by readers of COAST magazine, and received Gold for “Best Seaside Towns for Families 2019” by Days Out with the Kids. But its worldwide acclaim is down to its beaches and surfing… Fistral Beach is one of the top surfing destinations on the planet. The crashing Atlantic waves are a major draw amongst the surfing community with some of the top UK and International Surf Championships taking place in North Cornwall.

Feeling inspired to ride the waves (or paddle them)? Why not hire the gear and book yourself a surf lesson or two. There are a number of surf schools on Fistral Beach happy to teach adults and children at all levels. Alternatively, just relax on the sand with a coffee and a cake from one of the beach cafes.

Newquay is renowned for its beaches and Fistral is the most popular but it’s also worth checking out Towan Beach, Great Western Beach, Tolcarne Beach and Lusty Glaze Beach which is slightly out of town. National Trust owned Crantock Beach is beautiful, a stretch of golden sands backed by dunes between the Gannel river and Pentire Headland. Crantock is lovely for swimming, snorkeling, surfing and wind-surfing, you can also hire boards and canoes on the beach. If you’re lucky you may spot a pod of dolphins too!
