A beautiful retreat in a residential setting in Newquay, this spacious property is well-located for days on the beach and trips out to local attractions. Sleeping eight guests, this four-bedroom abode comes with a lovely garden where you can make the most of the glorious Cornish sunshine. Less than 350 metres from the golden sands of Porth Beach, it is ideal for swimming and surfing. With 11 other sandy beaches nearby, there are opportunities for pursuing the exhilarating pastimes of paddle boarding, sea kayaking, wave skiing and coasteering. Book exciting sea safari trips from the harbour and take the children to see the animals at Newquay Zoo or on a steam train along the Lappa Valley Railway.

Cross the drive and step up under the covered porch to enter your home-from-home. Wander down the hall to make your way into the main lounge, which has a wooden floor and three windows that bring the natural light flooding in. Here there is ample space for everyone to relax and you can sink back into the large, corner sofa to watch the Smart TV, chat about your day, or play family games together. There are also two armchairs where you might choose to pause with your book for a spell. For alternative viewing, retreat to the cosy snug to catch up on your favourite boxset on another Smart TV. Overlooking the garden lawn and with two sets of glass doors, the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner to the rear of the property is very much the hub of the home. Here you can open the doors on summer days and settle back in front of a third Smart TV. The large dining table is the perfect place to gather for your celebratory meals and the chic, contemporary kitchen area, with its many high-gloss units and light work surface, has been fitted out with everything you will need to help you cater for your party. There is also a coffee machine where you can prepare fresh cups to enjoy over in the seating area or out in the garden. The kitchen leads into a handy utility room, with an external door. There is also a WC downstairs. Make your way up to the first floor of the cottage to discover the bedrooms and bathrooms. The sumptuous master suite, with its super-king-size bed and dressing table, has been decorated in calm, neutral shades with just a splash of poppy red. This room benefits from an en-suite shower room and a Smart TV. A comfortable king-size bedroom also has soft tones, while the spacious twin, featuring fashionable greys with an accent of sunshine yellow, enjoys the flexibility of zip-and-link beds. Here guests can request at booking for the room to be made up with one super-king-size bed instead if they wish. There is also a bunk bedroom that the younger members of your party will adore. The family bathroom, which has a shower over the bath, is also at this level.

Step outside to unwind on the raised deck, part of which is covered, on spring and summer days. Recline on the outside sofa with your book or enjoy a glass of wine at the table as the sun goes down. Watch the children run around the lawn or listen to the birds in the trees. There is a useful outside shower where you can rinse sandy feet and salty wetsuits following afternoons on the beach.

  • 4 bedrooms – 1 super-king-size, 1 king-size, 1 bunk bedroom and 1 twin with zip-and-link beds (which can be made into a super-king-size on request)

We were very lucky with the weather and the house is of a good size and in a great location if you want a flat, family-friendly beach. You can't surf on Porth Beach, so it's a 15-minute walk to Lusty Glaze, down (and back up) 133 steps, so be prepared. Lusty Glaze is a beautiful beach, though, and perfect for watching the sunset. However, the houseRead more could do with some TLC - downstairs is modernised and well-equipped, but upstairs the beds are very old and uncomfortable and there is a distinct lack of storage in the master bedroom. The garden isn't overlooked and the outside shower is really useful if you're into water sports, but the garden could really benefit from some maintenance. We couldn't get a mobile signal at the property all week (we use different mobile providers within the family so it wasn't just an issue with one provider) so be aware. Finally, make sure you bring supplies with you if you all need a tea/coffee after a long journey there. Hide

We stayed here as a family get together over the Easter weekend. The house was perfect. We all had plenty of space. Porth beach is a 5 min stroll and perfect for children and dog walkers. Great coffee from the hole in the wall. If you want a busier part of town you are only 2 mins away from Newquay town centre.
