Totnes Castle is not far from the town centre and is a Norman motte built after the Conquest in 1066. You can still walk up the sloping stairs from the base of the castle to reach the top, which is an excellent viewing point across the whole of Totnes and across to the River Dart. The castle is also an English Heritage site, so tickets are free to members.
