Food and Drink in Derbyshire

The Best Food and Drink Spots in Derbyshire

Good food and drink can really make your holiday, which is why having an idea of where to go for the best grub in town is always helpful. That’s why we’ve created this guide, based on local recommendations, to help you and your fellow travellers have the tastiest time in Derbyshire.

Bakery goods

Loaf Bakery

Crich Village: Crich, near Matlock, is home to the Loaf Bakery, which sells all the best-baked goods you could wish for from a local bakery. But the real draw is that on Wednesdays, the bakery stays open into the evening and converts itself into a little pizza restaurant, which our local team assure you are absolutely mouth-watering.

Amber Valley Vineyards

Alfreton: Perfect for a romantic couple’s holiday or friend’s getaway, Amber Valley Vineyards offer wine tasting experiences and tours from owner Barry that can be booked through their website. This family owned business welcomes visitors at weekends to roam through the vineyards themselves or to pop into the shop and pick up a bottle of fresh fizz.

Vegetarian Cafe at Caudwell’s Mill

Bakewell: At this site lies the world’s last working water-powered flour mill and is still open as a visitor centre and sells a range of flours to its guests. Aside from flour, however, visitors can also pop into the vegetarian cafe on-site to try out some delicious, home-cooked plant-based delicacies! From warm soups on a cold day to delicious salads in the summer, this cafe has something for every day of the year.

The Bentley Brook Brewery

Lumsdale Valley: Tucked away in an old mill on the edges of a secret little valley near Matlock is the Bentley Brook Brewing co, an independent microbrewery that specialises in 350ml real ales. The brewery also offers a selection of hot and cold drinks, snacks and ice cream so it’s the perfect little stop on a family walk.

Stones Restaurant

Matlock: For a fine dining experience, be sure to head out to Stones in Matlock, which serves some incredible dishes. With a range of tasting menus and vegetarian and gluten-free menus, Stones truly caters for everyone and hopes to provide you with a lunch or dinner of ultimate relaxation and enjoyment. Their sister restaurant, The Bluebell, in Wingfield is also worth a visit if you are closer to that part of Derbyshire and welcomes dogs.

Fishers restaurant

Fischers

Baslow Hall: Traditional food with a twist, crisp and clean dining tables and fabulous tasting menus are to be expected at Fischers all year round. Perfect for an extra special occasion, Fischers offers only the best ingredients. Although they do not cater for vegans, they do offer a sublime vegetarian menu alongside their normal lunch and dinner menus. Children under 8 are not allowed to dine at the restaurant, so this one may suit couples, friendship groups and families with older children better.
