Bosing Barn is utterly wonderful. Incredibly spacious accommodation, luxurious furnishings, high beamed ceilings, oak and slate floors, exposed stone walls and stripped wood doors make this a truly iconic barn conversion. In a secret little valley just down from the centre of picturesque Kniveton, it sits in a peaceful rural location. Forming the upper part of the owner's farmhouse, alongside their livery stables, the accommodation is entirely self-contained and with its own entrance.

Set on a tranquil lane with countryside all around you and a babbling brook alongside the lane, you could be in the middle of nowhere. Have a wander around the adjoining stables and all the horses will give you inquisitive looks, the owner's dogs will give you a friendly welcome too. A stroll along the lane will get you to the super Red Lion pub, with its great beers and renowned food, attracting visitors from far and wide. A little further over the fields to the Ketch pub, also with a really good reputations for good food. Super walks are all around and all Derbyshire's holiday attractions are close at hand.

The local town of Ashbourne is a must with its lovely market square, country stores, antique shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Nearby historic Wirksworth is our favourite with lots of individual shops, a heritage trail and brilliant Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. Children will love Chatsworth's farmyard and adventure playground, the wild watersports of Carsington Water, cycling along the High Peak Trail, and a visit to Alton Towers which is just 20 minutes away.

Great location, quiet and peaceful. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners and felt very comfortable in the farm environment. So much nice scenery and walks nearby and comfortable just to relax in the barn if you need a well earned rest.

A lovely presented barn. Lots of character and the layout was ideal for two couples with private fantastic shower rooms. The kitchen was one of the best we'd stayed in with lots of equipment. The lounge area was well laid out with a homely feel. The beds were comfortable and the bedding of good quality. I liked that dogs were not allowed in the bedRead morerooms. We took our dog which slept in the lounge in a pen we had taken. The owners dogs were very friendly and loved to visit. We had a lovely meal in the village pub which was in walking distance. Would recommend this accommodation. Hide

Absolutely lovely property in a perfect spot. Lovely and quiet with plenty of walks on the doorstep. I was a little worried that my dog would find the number of dogs that the owner had a challenge but they couldn't have been nicer. The cottage is very comfortable and well kept. The kitchen area is well stocked with everything you need. Having a full size fridge freezer was very helpful. The owner has 8 dogs, all are very well behaved and very playful. Our daughter really enjoyed playing with them. There is a weber BBQ, with BBQ utensils you just need to bring the charcoal. We found the linen and towels to be of very good quality. In fact there was nothing that did not feel premium. The Red Lion pub is a very short walk and has great food. Shops are about 10min drive away. This really is a peaceful place to stay with great hosts. Hide

Sadly this lovely cottage holiday was spoilt by 2 main factors: 1. The cottage is only accessible through the livery stable yard (cottage listing just stated adjacent to livery stables which is not quite the same thing) 2. The owner lets their dogs (6, I think) roam freely (and the grounds are not enclosed) so even in the patio and garden area fRead moreor visitors sole use. The free roaming dogs severely limited our use of the garden as we did not feel comfortable sitting outside with our own dog, just in case the owners dogs came. On another note, the listing states the owner lives adjacent to the cottage they actually live in the lower section of the cottage. Hide

Lovely, characterful, well-appointed cottage in a good location for exploring the Derbyshire Dales. Everything one would need for a comfy stay was provided with good modern kitchen and bathrooms. Overall cleanliness was OK but it felt like it needed a deep clean in places - oven and fridge needed a wipe out (old food left in fridge and freezer), waRead morell lights and shades were thick with dust, lounge rug was very dirty. Most disappointing was the outdoor space. It looked very tired and neglected - lawn unmown, pots empty, BBQ rusty, paving weedy and cushions in the outdoor store were so dirty we couldn't use them to sit out. It's worth noting that the "garden" is not enclosed and is open to the stable yard which is quite busy with horses, horse owners and dogs which might be an issue for some folks with their own dogs or small children (was fine for us as we had neither). Would be happy to recommend - just fell short in terms of upkeep but easily resolved. Hide

The dogs belonging to the owners were really friendly, two were waiting every morning to greet us outside the kitchen door. Ball in tow too, we were soon well trained by them to throw the ball. The views were great, hardly any traffic passing by in the lane out the front of property. The Red Lion 500 yd's away was really good, good beers and cider, plus the menu was good. The property and location was super and worked perfectly for our plans to re-explore new and old haunts in a favourite area that we had not visited for many years. Also to go mountain biking. The barn was very clean bar one or two spots that would benefit from an occasional deep clean (e.g. shower drains).
