Visiting Wooler and the Cheviots

Whether you are staying close to the centre of Wooler or not, be sure to add a day trip to the town to your holiday itinerary. Here you’ll find a selection of family-run, local businesses from farm shops and butchers, to florists and bakeries. There are also plenty of places to grab a bite to eat and quench your thirst. The Tankerville Arms is a seventeenth-century pub with an extensive menu and is ideal for an indulgent lunch or evening meal. In fact, Wooler is home to several fantastical local pubs, with The Black Bull Inn, The Anchor Inn, The Angel Inn, the Riverside Bar and more all nearby.

For a more active day out, explore the local areas surrounding Wooler and Cheviots. Ingram Valley, which sits within Breamish Valley is the perfect place for a countryside walk, or a picnic and a paddle on a warm, sunny day. The College Valley, owned by the College Valley estate is a peaceful, unspoilt arena free to roam on foot or by bicycle. Only a select number of cars are given access to drive through the valley each day making it extremely peaceful. The Ford and Etal Estate is also close by and is perfect for a family day out. Etal Castle is well worth a visit and has a lovely tearoom. The Cheviot Tap, a local brewery, is also here and they have a small herd of alpacas which are great for entertaining kids and the young at heart!
