Tucked away in the scenic countryside near Hadrian’s Wall, this characterful cottage offers couples or a small family the ideal base to explore some of Northumberland’s most fascinating attractions. 2 miles away, the friendly town of Haltwhistle provides everything you need, from tempting pubs and family-friendly restaurants to shops for picnic supplies. For history lovers, a visit to Vindolanda Roman Fort and Army Museum (3.5 miles) is a must. This extraordinary archaeological site brings Roman Britain to life with excavated ruins, artefacts, and live digs in the summer months. The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre (3 miles) is packed with interactive exhibits about the local landscape, walking trails, and a rooftop view that's not to be missed. It's also a great stop off point for exploring Hadrian's Wall Country, with dramatic views, scenic walks, and the charming village of Gilsland, 9.5 miles from the cottage. Head 13 miles to Hexham, home to Hexham Abbey, Sele Park, and Hexham Racecourse.

Down three stone steps, the entrance opens into a handy porch and boot room to kick off muddy boots, hang coats, and pop on a wash using the built-in washing machine. Step into the inviting lounge where a stone fireplace houses a crackling wood burner for cosy evenings in. Sink into the comfortable sofa or one of the armchairs and watch a favourite film on the Smart TV. A feature stone wall, bookshelf, and tasteful styling give this space a homely feel. The contemporary kitchen/diner is bright and thoughtfully equipped, with seating for up to four guests. A large window lets in plenty of natural light and frames peaceful views of the woodland and stream below. French doors lead out to a stunning cantilever balcony with garden furniture and a striking picture window that brings the outside in. Upstairs, you’ll find a spacious king-size zip-and-link bedroom with a window seat and an en-suite bathroom behind a sliding door. The second bedroom has a single bed with a pull-out trundle bed for an extra guest, plus a sleek en-suite shower room and views to enjoy.

Outside, the elevated balcony feels nestled in the trees for early morning coffees or al fresco meals in the fresh air. There’s private off-road parking for one car on the adjacent hard-standing, with further parking for a second vehicle on the nearby lane.

The cottage is very well equipped and is perfect for visiting the area. The only issue was the small parking spot for the cottage. Was made more difficult when car was parked in the opposite cottage

Very cosy, comfortable, well equipped cottage in a perfect location for exploring Hadrian's Walls and its Roman forts/museums. Sainsburys in Haltwhistle only a couple of miles away. Parking space next to the cottage is tight but adequate although long cars would stick out a bit into the very quiet access road (which is a cul de sac only serving a fRead moreew other properties. The cottage is beautiful, newly extended to create snug but really comfortable spaces. Its fully kitted out so there wasnt any more that we needed. Located in a great spot which enables easy access to some really interesting site to see and landscapes to enjoy

The cottage has been renovated recently to a very high standard and is also extremely well equipped. It is located close to some of the most interesting forts and sections of Hadrians wall. Parking is restricted to a very small, tricky space at the side of the house accessed off a farm road that leads uphill off the very busy Newcastle to CarlisleRead more Road. Hide

Very comfortable stay at this beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We would definitely like to return and stay again if we find ourselves again in this area of Northumberland. A great base for exploring the area.
