Cottages in Braunton

Braunton can be found right in the middle of the North Devon National Landscape and a stone’s throw from the coast.

Braunton is a large village with one of the highest village populations in the county and so not surprisingly, it is very well served with local businesses, lots of independent traders and a plethora of restaurants and pubs.

Close to Braunton lie the fabulous Saunton Sands. A huge expanse of beautifully soft white sand, this beach is well equipped with a hotel and cafe although at three miles in length, you won’t feel crowded. There’s also deck chair and beach hut hire so you can really make a day of it.

West facing, Saunton is also an excellent surfing beach and there are two surf schools who offer lessons at the Sands. Every member of the family is welcome at Saunton Sands as this is a beach that welcomes dogs all year round.

Behind Saunton Sands, you can find Braunton Burrows. Part of the North Devon Biosphere Reserve, this was the first such designated area in the UK. At 1,500 acres, it’s the largest sand dune system in the UK and internationally renowned for its fauna and flora.

Braunton Burrows is a main route for bird migration along the west coast of the United Kingdom so there are plenty of opportunities for wildlife spotting. Pop into Barnstaple for shops, restaurants, pubs, and cinema.

There are two other tours available on the Explorer, ‘Braunton on the Move’ which explains the history of the village and its development into its current format, and ‘D-Day and Dunes’ which explores the role that Braunton Burrows played in the allied preparation for D Day during the Second World War. We have a selection of pretty cottages in Braunton, some centrally located and others set a little away from the village.
