Cottages in the Vale of York

The Vale of York is bordered by the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds to the north and east, and the Yorkshire Dales to the west.

Interestingly for this part of the world, the Vale of York is quite a flat area making it easily accessible for all types of visitors; however, challenging climbs await the more adventurous who want to get in amongst some of the spectacular scenery that surrounds the Vale on foot or by bicycle.

No trip to the Vale of York would be complete without a visit to York which stands at its heart. York is an ancient, walled city with Roman origins and offers a huge range of history, culture and attractions for the visitor. York Minster must be fairly close to the top of the ‘must see’ list, this is actually the Cathedral of St. Peter, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. The Liberty of St. Peter is the area around the cathedral now known as Minister Close and is well worth exploring; it even has its own police force, a hangover from the days when the cathedral had total jurisdiction over its environs.

Follow your trip to York Minster with a visit to the Shambles, the famous shopping street in York with its historic, medieval buildings overhanging the people below; the buildings almost touch in places. Then, complete your day with an evening floodlit riverboat cruise through the city on the River Ouse. What better after a busy day of shopping and sightseeing in York or an energetic time walking, cycling or riding in some of the Vale's spectacular scenery than to retire to your cosy stone cottage and enjoy a glass of wine or perhaps walk to the local pub for dinner?

We have a selection of pretty cottages scattered throughout the Vale of York and further afield in Easingwold, Pickering, the North York Moors and the whole of Yorkshire for that matter.
