Cottages in Berwick-upon-tweed

Welcome to Berwick-Upon-Tweed, a delightful town steeped in Anglo-Scottish history. This bustling walled settlement has a vibrant arts scene, excellent restaurants, two sandy beaches, relaxing riverside walks and pretty cycleways. If you’re planning a family holiday or a get-together with friends, our Berwick-Upon-Tweed holiday cottages tick all the boxes.

Berwick is the most northerly town in England, home to iconic bridges and a thriving culture scene. Famous for sitting on the fence as to whether it’s part of England or Scotland, it’s the perfect base from which to explore, discover and enjoy this beautiful coastal town. Take a walk around and stop off for coffee at one of the independent cafes or pack up a picnic and head to the beach for a dip in the sea. Cocklawburn Beach, 4 miles south of Berwick, is the perfect place for walking the Northumberland Coast Path or cycling part of the nearby National Cycle Route. This is a great spot for birdwatching and rock pooling, too. If it’s more of a stroll you’re looking for, the Spittal Promenade hugs the coastline, offering fabulous views of the lighthouse.

History buffs will love the town's ancient stone walls which date back some 450 years. Built as a defence against the Scots, they are the last remaining examples of bastioned town walls in Britain. It’s well worth the 45-minute walk around the walls to discover the history of Berwick. Children and adults alike will love the Chain Bridge Honey Farm for an educational and fun day out. The visitor centre is a great place to learn all about bees, bee behaviour, and the honey and wax extraction process. From here you can walk to the Union Chain Bridge, a suspension bridge which links England to Scotland over the River Tweed.

Berwick-upon-Tweed is just 3 miles from the Scottish border and an hour from Edinburgh, where we also have an array of cottages to choose from.

If you’re looking for dramatic landscapes, take the 39-mile drive to Melrose (birthplace of Rugby Sevens) sitting between England and Scotland. It's a great day out!

We have a great portfolio of holiday homes throughout Northumberland, from dog-friendly cottages with the beach within reach to family cottages and luxurious, romantic retreats.
