One of our Coastal Retreats Collection

By the water’s edge on the banks of the River Tweed, Waterfront knows how to maximise a view. Situated in the Borders town of Berwick, its living area forms the top floor of this contemporary, but characterful three-storey Grade II listed townhouse, which gives panoramic views of the water and coastline outside.

On a clear day, you can see as far as Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island from Waterfront. Step out onto the balcony and enjoy the peace and solitude of the location - just a short walking distance from the town with its Elizabethan walls, cobbled streets and Georgian architecture. Once a whaling house, then a small maltings serving Berwick's very own brewery, before becoming a home for sail making, this building has taken on a new lease of life with this stunning conversion into 12 superior townhouses of which Waterfront is one.

Huge timber roof beams, deep window sills and cast iron columns characterise this Retreat, and the professionally designed interior décor more than lives up to the character of its architecture. All three of its bedrooms enjoy superb sea views so you are never too far from the sound of the waves. Waterfront also benefits from a small 'secret garden' tucked up behind the house which is worth the climb up the staircase of the neighbouring apartment building for the views! Not ideal for young children but a super little outside space to grab some sunshine or to retreat to with a flask of coffee and a good book.

CANDID COMMENTS

Please note there is no leisure club membership at Waterfront.

As a three storey contemporary house, it is not ideal if you don't like stairs and you don't like contemporary!

The private parking space is right by the side wall of the house and is tight if you have a large car, in which case you may prefer to leave your car on the street outside the house.

One of the best locations weve stayed in, overlooking the estuary was just amazing and the only balcony in the row was such a bonus. The property was superb and ideal for the three of us. Had a fantastic time and even saw an avocet that settled outside for a few hours. Loved our stay.

We went in April 2026 and really enjoyed having a glass or two of wine in the sunshine on the balcony. We never tired of the view. Beds were comfortable and showers were hot with good water pressure. My daughter wrote this as she hates reviews which dont give advice. Overall we had a lovely stay here. I can't leave a review as you booked but, in case you want to add my tuppence worth... A beautiful house in a beautiful setting... Parking is very tight, the space is right next to the house and you need to manoeuvre on a narrow road whicRead moreh is only separated from the sea by a few bollards so you need to be a confident driver/reverse parker. We managed but can imagine plenty wouldn't. Further along, the road widens, and it's much easier to park. If you're really nervous, drive right to the end of the road and there are 4 spaces which are more like a traditional carpark type set up (so no parallel or reverse parking needed). It's not far but I'd recommend unloading the car at the house first. The house was incredibly clean, I haven't come across many holiday homes as clean as this was, credit to the cleaners. It was also nice to be left a generous welcome basket, cake, some chocolate eggs (it was Easter), some crisps, a bottle of prosecco and some milk! The views are absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, the view from the living room is somewhat marred/ruined by one of the sliding doors having fogged up inside the glass so you cannot properly appreciate it with the doors closed, otherwise though it was just beautiful. Like many holiday homes, the practicalities haven't really been considered. There are a lack of places to put your clothes when you take them off, hooks etc. nowhere in the bathrooms to hang your towels - although, it must be said that at least the towels provided are of a generous size and can be wrapped properly around your body! - lots of little things that aren't annoying enough to ruin a holiday but it would be so much better if they were there! The cupboards that house the crockery and the glassware in the kitchen are incredibly annoying. They are electric so you have to press a button to open and close them but they are dying a death and often don't work first time you press, nor do they open fully. The living room would benefit from some lamps and some comfier seating. Luckily, we were not 6 adults but, if we were, we would not all have fitted on the sofa which, while larger than some, really can only seat 2 people comfortably as, without putting your feet up, it's very uncomfortable to sit on! The only other seats in the room are a weird spinning chair which is awful and a wicker chair which has seen better days and is also not very comfortable. A highchair and travel cot are provided but the highchair is useless if your child is not able to sit properly/stay seated as the straps are broken and it's very old style. The travel cot seems fine though we only used the mattress to try and save our backs. The beds are comfy although, being zip and link, there is a weird gap/dip in the middle and the fitted sheets weren't quite big enough resulting in them popping off at the edges every night. All of the showers have their issues, the downstairs one leaks, (maintenance came in to inspect so hopefully its fixed now). one is zip tied to its holder as otherwise would fall out and the other one has a drippy shower-head so you get random drops while using it. Also, nowhere to put your shower gels/shampoos in the two on the first floor (the ground floor is over a bathtub so has edges for that). The bath is lovely and huge and has a jacuzzi feature which is nice. The washing machine was very efficient, unfortunately only a small, partly broken, clothes horse is available though. The house was lovely and warm throughout, we often had to turn down the thermostat! For those with young children a stairgate would be advisable, although please note the stairs are very wide, luckily our stairgate is a wide one but we could have done with more than one. The trek from the entrance to the top of the house is not for the faint hearted, make sure you use the toilet before you ascend. The kitchen is fairly well catered for but, like all holiday homes, the sharp knives are all blunt as anything so bring a knife sharpener or your own sharp knives. The wooden floors through all the living spaces are lovely but we did encounter a number of nails that had lost their heads poking up through. We were lucky that an accident didn't happen as none of us wear shoes in the house and our 18 month old is all over the floor, we covered them as best we could with furniture and then the handyman came a few days in to take care of the ones we'd found but I'm sure there will be others so watch out! Hopefully it will be sorted following our feedback but the WiFi code in the book is wrong, the router is in the utility room so see that for the right password! Also, a lot of the information in the book seemed outdated and an entire section was for another property entirely. All in all we had a lovely stay but I would recommend the owners stay for a while themselves to identify all the wee things that need righting as it would just make for a much more pleasant stay if these things were taken care of. Hope this is helpful and doesnt deter you from booking. Location is glorious. Hide
