Cottages in Burnham Market
The Burnhams are a group of beautiful villages on the North Norfolk coast situated around the River Burn and Burnham Market is perhaps the best known of them all.
Burnham Market is about four miles from the sea and is a collection of classic Georgian architecture interspersed with pretty cottages in the iconic Norfolk style of red brick and flint, with a pantile roof.
The village lies either side of a lovely green and the main high street is full of trendy independent shops and an array of delectable places to eat.
The town is one of six villages linked by name and also by geography as they are all adjacent within this area of the coast. Burnham Deepdale and Burnham Norton are within two miles north west of Burnham Market, and Burnham Thorpe, famous for raising Admiral Lord Nelson, and Burnham Overy Town are a similar distance away but to the east. Burnham Overy Staithe is on the coast and provides moorings for boats.
The Burnham villages are sufficiently close together to make walking between them the best way to travel and an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful countryside in this part of North Norfolk. Less than two miles from Burnham Market is Deepdale Marsh, a fantastic area of fresh marsh and saltmarsh situated between Burnham Deepdale and Burnham Norton. The natural environment makes this a paradise for walkers and for wildlife watchers with almost all of the walking on level ground.
Culture vultures will not be disappointed as Houghton Hall, Holkham Hall and Sandringham are all within a 45 minute drive of Burnham Market, and the ancient villages of Great and Little Walsingham a similar distance inland.
