Cottages in Mevagissey

Mevagissey is charming, the Cornwall of picture postcards. Stroll down the narrow streets to the centre of old Mevagissey and the twin harbour where the fishing boats land their daily catch of plaice, sole and lobster. Our holiday cottages in Mevagissey are dotted throughout the town or just a short drive away, all within easy reach of the harbour and nearby beaches. Whether you’re looking for a dog-friendly holiday cottage with fabulous coastal walks, a romantic bolt-hole for two or a luxury home with sea views for the family, you’ll find it in Mevagissey – perfect for a self-catering break.

The harbour is flanked by seafood restaurants, pubs, cafes, galleries and shops, a lovely spot to sit and watch the hustle and bustle. The town was once the hub of Cornwall’s pilchard industry. Named after St Meva and St Issey, two Irish saints, Mevagissey dates back to 1313.

Things to do near Mevagissey

Mevagissey sits on the south Cornish coast on a stretch of the South West Coast Path so it’s perfect for getting out and about and exploring this beautiful area. Fishing trips run in and out of the harbour, there’s also a ferry service which takes on average around 35 minutes and runs along the coastline to the picturesque town of Fowey (look out for basking sharks, dolphins and seals sunbathing on the rocks).

Mevagissey has an aquarium and a museum both on the harbour. Step back in time and discover local artifacts and memorabilia as you delve into the history of the village.

There isn’t a Mevagissey beach but head to nearby Pentewan Beach. This expansive sandy beach is the perfect spot for swimming, surfing and windsurfing. There’s a slipway for sailing and you can hire canoes and dinghies. The village has plenty of parking and cafes for relaxing over a cream tea.

A visit to The Lost Gardens of Heligan is a must while you’re in the area. Set in 200 acres of lush landscape grounds, it’s home to National Collections, wildlife and Victorian gardens.

Just 10 miles from Mevagissey is the iconic Eden Project. An amazing educational and fun day out for all the family. Wander down through stunning gardens, dotted with contemporary art to the massive covered biomes on an adventure through the largest indoor rainforest on the planet and on to the fragrant Mediterranean Biome.

Visit Mevagissey in June and join in the celebrations and dancing in the street at Feast Week. This celebration is understood to be Cornwall’s oldest surviving festival.
