Cottages in Dartmouth

Dartmouth and its namesake, the River Dart, are right at the heart of the English Riviera. With steep green hills looming over the river mouth and colourful terraced houses lining the banks’ edges, Dartmouth is a picture-postcard town with lots to offer its guests, by way of manmade attractions and the natural landscape alike. Our Dartmouth holiday cottages are truly unique and showcase the best of South Devon's accommodation. Over half of our properties in Dartmouth are dog-friendly, and many are luxury cottages.

Lots of our cottages in Dartmouth have outdoor dining areas, making them perfect for a family get-together in the sun. Riverside views are another perk of our Dartmouth portfolio, giving you a unique opportunity to live right in the heart of the English Riviera for as long as you like and enjoy unspoiled views of the Dart.

When you’re not kicking back and relaxing in your Dartmouth bolthole, you might want to explore all the attractions this Devon town has to offer. Dartmouth Castle has been a prominent feature of the town for over 600 years. First built in the 14th century, the castle was in active service as a defensive fort right up until the Second World War. Nowadays, the site is owned by English Heritage and has a lovely tearoom and other facilities, as well as being packed full of history. You can make your day even more memorable by arriving at the castle via boat, which can be caught from Dartmouth quay.

If you are a history enthusiast, you may also be interested to learn more about Dartmouth’s extensive naval history during your time here. Dartmouth has been a place of naval significance, ever since the Crusades, when Richard the Lionheart and his troops set sail from Dartmouth quay. The Butterwalk in Dartmouth is a row of old merchant’s homes that is now a Grade I-listed site, where the Dartmouth Museum can be found. The museum displays a large collection of local artefacts and exhibitions, including ones that pay homage to Charles II’s time in the town and The Mayflower.

The South West Coast Path also passes through Dartmouth. The 10-mile route to Torcross is particularly popular with visitors and locals of Dartmouth alike. Along the way you’ll see highlights such as Blackpool Sands Beach, various ancient rock formations and coves and Devon’s largest freshwater lake at Slapton Sands, which is home to many species of birds. Of course, you can make this route as short or long as you like, but whatever distance you decide on, you’re guaranteed to encounter breathtaking views.

When you’re not busy exploring, be sure to grab a tasty bite to eat at one of Dartmouth’s various tempting eateries. Dartmouth has lots of great places to eat and drink, but highlights are the amazing homemade Devon ice-cream parlours and Devon cream teas on offer. Some of our Dartmouth properties are right in the centre of the town so within walking distance of all the shops, bars, pubs, restaurants and cafes.
