Cottages in Beckley

The rural Sussex village of Beckley, near Hastings and Rye, epitomises the charm and peacefulness of the East Sussex countryside. If you’re looking for a rural retreat, then Beckley could just be your perfect match. We have a select assortment of holiday cottages in Beckley, some of which are dog-friendly. The majority of our Beckley holiday homes are also classified as luxury properties, with stunning interiors, spacious enclosed gardens, open fires and plenty of space inside.

Although Beckley is rural and remote by nature, that doesn’t mean that it is short of amenities or things to discover. In fact, if you do bring a four-legged friend with you on holiday, Beckley’s countryside and woodlands are a great place for humans and dogs to stretch their legs. Both Bixley Woods and Flatropes Wood are ancient Sussex woodland that showcases the best of the Sussex countryside. Flatropes Wood is 37 hectares of secluded, peaceful woodland bursting with an array of trees, flowers and wildlife. It is a wonderful spot that avoids being a tourist trap and is instead for relaxing and reconnecting with nature.

Great Dixter House and Gardens in Beckley is another fantastic option for a family day out. Originally the home of gardener and writer Christopher Loyd, the house and gardens remain well-tended and open to the public so that as many people as possible can enjoy the vibrant landscape gardening envisaged by Loyd. The Loggia Cafe on site is also open for you to enjoy a tasty treat. Parents of young children may also be interested to know that Garden Explorers is a toddler and children friendly activity group that runs on Thursday and Friday mornings, but you have to join the mailing list to get more information.

Beckley is also a village full of friendly faces, who you’ll probably meet at the local pub, The Rose and Crown. The Rose and Crown serves traditional pub grub, including some of the best roast dinners and a selection of real ales for you to kick back, relax and enjoy. The pub is also dog friendly, so they’ll be no trouble bringing your canine pal along after a long day walking in Beckley Woods.

Beckley is also just under 10 miles from Rye and Camber Sands, with Hastings just a little way further, but still within a comfortable distance to enjoy a day or two by the sea. Start planning your Beckley stay with us here, or read more about our Sussex coastal and countryside cottages.
