Cottages in Richmond

Richmond lies to the north east corner of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, a gem of a market town tucked away in glorious countryside – why not take a look at our full collection of Yorkshire Dales retreats?

Central to Richmond is the 12th-century Richmond Castle which overlooks the River Swale running through the town. The views from the top of the castle across to the Yorkshire Dales are panoramic and the castle is surrounded by the most beautiful gardens. There are a host of lovely eating places around the castle walls. A circular walk takes you from the castle alongside the River Swale to Easby Abbey, passing by the old railway station which has now been converted into an art gallery and restaurant; the walk in fact is along the old railway. The views around the abbey are simply stunning, the abbey ruins contributing to the unique atmosphere.

A range of eating places, museums, galleries and independent traders mean that there is much to keep you in Richmond and for those who don’t want to venture too far afield, the walks around the river are blissful and very pretty. For those that do, the dramatic vistas of the Dales beckon and it is not for nothing that Richmond has earned the title of Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. For more, lovely places to stay pick a cottage in Gunnerside or Skipton.
