Self-catering holidays in Framlingham

Steeped in history, Framlingham is one of Suffolk’s most-coveted locations. Framlingham Castle is undoubtedly the town’s number one tourist attraction; walk the walls and enjoy spectacular views of The Mere – a haven for wildlife and a lovely spot for strolls with the dog. Framlingham’s pretty-as-pie centre is largely a conservation area with timber-framed and painted-plaster cottages, Georgian, Regency and Victorian buildings. At its heart, Market Hill is home to fabulous gift, food, fashion and antiques shops and – staying true to its rural roots – the twice-weekly Framlingham Market. Stock up on tasty treats to take back to your holiday accommodation, or for totally fuss-free self-catering bag a table at one of the cafés, tea shops, pubs and restaurants close by.

Further indulge your taste for the finer things in life at Shawsgate Vineyard, just a mile north of Framlingham, where you can explore at your own pace or join an organised tour. You’ll find more to whet your appetite at Aldeburgh, on the Suffolk Heritage Coast, where you can buy fresh fish from huts along the seafront and – at the other end of the beach – visit the town’s gin distillery. Aldeburgh has high-end boutiques and galleries to browse, and a big pebble beach where children can play. Dogs are allowed all-year at the northern end of the beach, walk on towards Thorpeness and you’ll see the iconic Scallop sculpture en route. Choose a Framlingham holiday cottage and you’ll soon understand why this upmarket town appeals to visitors and locals alike.
