Cottages in Falmouth

The vibrant town of Falmouth perches on the southern coastline of West Cornwall and is known for its creative buzz and seaside appeal. With a great choice of independent shops, family attractions, and places to eat and drink, Falmouth is an ideal destination for a self-catering cottage holiday in Cornwall.

Falmouth is home to the world’s third-largest deepwater harbour, some of the best beaches, and first-class water sports including gig rowing, diving and kayaking. The town also hosts prestigious sailing events with the Pendennis Cup and Falmouth Regatta maintaining its maritime legacy.

Whether you want to build sandcastles, hit the waves or go rock pooling, there’s a beach to do it and a coastal cottage to stay in. Gyllyngvase is a favourite spot for rock pooling at low tide. For surfing and water sports, head for Maenporth Beach. Swanpool is a pretty and sandy cove, perfect for families. Nature lovers should visit the Swanpool Nature Reserve which lies behind the beach.

Not only does Falmouth have four main beaches, but beautiful gardens that are brimming with exotic plants. Falmouth’s mild maritime climate is perfect for sub-tropical plants and Kimberly Park Municipal Gardens showcases the very best. The National Maritime Museum Cornwall has won numerous awards and has an underwater observation window so you can get a glimpse of ocean life. Built by Henry VIII, Pendennis Castle lies on a headland sheltering Falmouth from the sea. This fortress is complete with restored Victorian and WWII defences. The Discovery Centre is a must, bringing the past to life through hands-on activities.

Art lovers should visit the award-winning Falmouth Art Gallery featuring some of the best of British art including Sir Alfred Munnings and Henry Scott-Tuke. Plus, an impressive collection of over 2,000 artworks. A foodie paradise, dine on the freshest seafood at the beachside restaurants and pubs or pick up a picnic from one of the delis. Book one of our holiday cottages in Falmouth for the Oyster Festival in October. Explore the Fal estuary with ferries running regularly to the harbour town of St Mawes, or head to the friendly town of Helston.
