Escape to this tranquil yurt, tucked into a private meadow on a glamping site on the outskirts of the village of Bramfield – just 3 miles from the market town of Halesworth. Sleeping two people, it’s perfect for couples who are in search of a back-to-nature retreat to call home while they explore the Suffolk coast together. Head to Dunwich Beach (7.5 miles) for a bracing walk along the shingle shore, and then follow the coast to RSPB Minsmere (8 miles), where hides dotted along the reedbeds let you watch the birdlife up close. Or head into Southwold (10 miles) to take photos by the colourful beach huts and sample the local microbrews. Further afield, step back 1,400 years in time at Sutton Hoo (21 miles), the Anglo-Saxon royal burial ground where a great ship burial was unearthed. Climb the 17-metre viewing tower for a bird’s-eye view over the burial mounds.
Steps lead up to the yurt. Head inside and you’ll find a bright, open-plan space, where timber roof poles fan out from a round ceiling window that floods the yurt with light. The wooden sleigh bed takes pride of place, with a blanket chest at its foot, while a futon offers a pleasant spot to curl up by day – and an extra bed when needed. A rustic farmhouse table is just the place for morning coffee. Head over to the shared outdoor kitchen to cook up anything from a quick breakfast to a hearty supper, and the indoor dining room next door is perfect for board games on a rainy afternoon. A composting toilet sits close to the yurt, and the lockable shower rooms and WCs are just 500 metres away above the cart lodge.
Step out onto your private deck, where you can set out the deck chairs and soak up the meadow views on sunny days. On the grass below, gather round the fire pit as night falls, or fire up the BBQ for an al fresco dinner. Just one other yurt shares the meadow, and it’s set well apart so you have plenty of privacy. Head to the shared tennis court whenever you fancy a game. Private parking is available for two cars.
