This handsome period cottage in Middleton, just west of Pickering, is a great choice for groups who want a tranquil base for country walks, coastal day trips, and relaxed evenings beside the fire. Pickering, 1.5 miles away, is worth exploring for its castle, characterful market-town streets, and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Film buffs can visit Pickering Station, which appeared in Downton Abbey, then ride the line to nearby Goathland Station, which cameoed in the first Harry Potter film. Wander the weekly market in Helmsley (11 miles) to source a picnic treat, then venture to the coastal town of Whitby (22 miles) to bask on its sandy beaches, walk the picturesque harbour or tuck into its famous fish and chips. There’s also the Gothic Abbey ruins, which are sure to catch your eye. Following a day of exploring, the pub is just 150 metres away, making supper and evening drinks wonderfully easy.

Arrive back from your fun-filled excursions and open the door to this tastefully modernised period cottage. To the right is the large lounge, where you can light the wood burner, spread out on the sofas with a hot chocolate, and watch your favourite show on the TV. To the left of this room is the country-style kitchen/diner with its showstopping range cooker, generous appliances and central solid table seating six. Off this impressive space is the utility room with a washing machine, WC and sink, plus a generous pantry. When you’re ready to turn in for the night, make your way up to the first floor, where you’ll find three lovely bedrooms with delightful decor. The first is a large king-size bedroom with a gorgeous ornamental fireplace, wardrobe and en-suite shower room with WC. The second is a cosy double bedroom with dressing table and hanging space, and the third is a charming single bedroom with bedside chest of drawers and hanging space. Finishing off this floor is the stylish bathroom with a clawfoot bath, shower and WC.

Outside, a pretty south-facing garden and patio with comfortable furniture make for a peaceful place to relax outdoors as often as the weather permits. There is private parking for one car at the cottage, with additional parking by request.

We've booked holidays through Holiday Cottages before and always found them very good. Our Holiday at Hall Cottage last week was outstanding, we met Philip one of the owners who asked if everything was ok which it was. The Cottage has all the facilities you would ever need, it was comfortable and well laid out .The village of Middleton is handy foRead morer all the North Yorkshire attractions. I would highly recommend any Holiday Cottage users to give it a visit. Hide
