A delightful stone cottage in a wonderful location, this superb property, refurbished in 2025, is ideal for friends or small families. It’s set just outside Nenthead, England’s highest village. Once a major centre for lead and silver mining, the village now has a mining heritage centre which you can explore with self-guided trails. For a day out, hop on an old-fashioned locomotive for a ride on the South Tynedale Railway, which runs from Alston, 5 miles, to the village of Slaggyford. Visit Ashgill Force, a 5-mile-long waterfall with spectacular cascading falls, or head to Penrith, 24 miles, a major market town where you’ll find a range of places to eat and drink, from fine dining to pub grub, plus high-street retailers and independent shops. In Pooley Bridge, 29 miles away, you can hire a boat or jump on a steamer and experience the iconic sights of Ullswater.
The cottage has been exquisitely decorated with timber accents and soft colours that reflect the surrounding countryside, incorporating lovely original features such as exposed stone and handsome beams. The elegant lounge/diner is the hub of the house, a tranquil space where you can spend relaxing evenings chatting, enjoying the wonderful views, reading or streaming/watching your favourite shows on the Smart TV. A wood burner, set into an impressive chimney, is the lovely focal point of this room and will create a warming glow on cool evenings. Serve up hearty breakfasts and tasty suppers at the farmhouse-style dining table in the corner of the room. The compact, beautifully designed kitchen is equipped with everything the chef will need to cook up delicious meals, and there’s also a dishwasher to help with cleaning up afterwards. Also on the ground floor is a refreshing family shower room. The first floor consists entirely of two beautiful bedrooms; one king-size and one super-king-size, with gorgeous linens and characterful beamed, sloping ceilings. Both beds are zip-and-link, which can be made up as twin beds if requested.
When you feel like some fresh air, step out from the lounge onto the patio with outdoor furniture to sit and relax or dine alfresco. The garden extends to the side and rear of the property. You’ll also have use of a second garden that is shared with the adjacent property, and there is private parking for two cars.
