Description

Hugging the south boundary of the Clwydian Range AONB with the River Ceiriog passing below you, this charming holiday let sits just outside the bustling community village of Chirk and is perfect for family and friends looking to escape to the borders of North East Wales and Shropshire. Whether you're here to enjoy the stunning setting of the surrounding woodland or to spend your days adventuring outdoors, this traditional farmhouse welcomes you in with warmth and comfort. Visit the historic UNESCO site of Chirk Castle (2.5 miles) and stand one foot in Wales and one foot in England along the stunning aqueduct (4 miles). Pontfadog (0.5 miles) offers a local country pub and post office store, where busier Chirk (3.5 miles) has an array of pubs, cafes, butchers, and greengrocers. Fish at nearby Chirk Fishery (2.3 miles) with complimentary vouchers for two lakes and a family bait pool. Llangollen is only 4 miles away where you can enjoy outdoor pursuits on the River Dee, hire a self-drive canal boat or board the heritage train line through the picturesque Dee Valley. Travelling further afield, you’re only 12 miles from Wrexham, 24 miles from Chester and Shrewsbury, and 30 miles from Snowdonia National Park.

Stepping through the front door, you have a large entrance hallway providing ample space to kick off the outdoor attire before being welcomed by the warmth and space of this characterful property. The traditional farmhouse kitchen is equipped and stocked with everything you’ll need to rustle up the locally sourced goods for dinner, or the breakfast items you’ll find waiting for you in your welcome hamper. Choose to cook from the electric oven and plug-in hot plate, or there is a large air fryer for those who prefer quick and easy cooking and a premium gas BBQ for the outdoor chefs. You’ll also find an omelette maker, egg boiler, toastie maker and Bosch pod coffee machine. The kitchen opens up to a cosy dining area with original beams and views over the garden, making it the perfect space for everyone to come together for eating, gaming, and conversation. Come rain or shine, the separate living room is the place to settle in and relax. A wonderful wood burner takes centre stage, perfect for those winter nights, whereas in the summer, you can swing open the patio doors and invite the outside sun in as you watch your favourite Sunday afternoon film on the Smart TV. This property benefits from a downstairs bedroom with a single bed and a large en-suite shower room. There is also a small utility space where you’ll find the under-counter freezer, washing machine and laundry facilities. Up the statement wooden staircase and just off the long landing, you’ll find three bedrooms and a family bathroom – all with quirky character, original features and ample storage for bags and clothes. The lower eaves in the double bedroom allow you to lay in the comfort of your own bed and admire the fantastic views of the surrounding woodland through the two Velux windows. The same goes for the twin bedroom, and the single bedroom which is a cosy space offering views of the front lawn. The traditional farmhouse bathroom has a bath and separate shower, perfect for both the evening soaker and early riser.

Outside, the property grounds stretch right out in front of you, with a large south-facing lawn area and a huge, gravelled patio/driveway. To the side of the property, heading out of the patio doors from the living room, you’ll find the gas BBQ, circular picnic bench and parasol with enough seating for all the family and additional comfortable stylish seating. A large gate encloses the property from the main driveway and surrounding farmer's fields.

Mr R,

Couldn’t gave wished for a more idyllic place. The owner truly went the extra mile to tastefully decorate the property for the festive season, even left presents under the tree! Beautifully appointed building, so warm and inviting, home from home. Will be back!

Ms W,

An amazing stay in a great location, close to everything we wanted to see. Spotlessly clean, spacious, beautifully decorated for our family pre Christmas break, it was just perfect. Hosts are just fantastic. Didn’t want to leave and can’t wait to return! X

Mrs S,

We will 100%be booking this cottage for 2025

Miss M,

Our whole party had a really lovely stay at Stabl Y Ddol. Kay and Huw are fantastic hosts, friendly, attentive and very welcoming; nothing is too much trouble for them. The property has been recently fully renovated, and decorated, to a very high standard. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and tidy. The parking area is large, secure, and can easily cope with several cars. It made a great base for days out (Powis Castle in Welshpool is well worth a visit). Sunday lunch in the Castle Bistro in nearby Chirk is heartily recommended. Will definitely have Stabl y Ddol in mind for a relaxing break next year.

Mr W,

Nice property comfortable with good rooms arranged to suit most families great for parking good outside area for barbecue etc. Great location for visiting attractions on the borders and into Wales highly recommended.

Mr D,

My self and my family stayed at Stabl Y Ddol for 4 nights on the 22nd of July. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and in a very good area for exploring . Kay and Huw the owners of the cottage are wonderful and go out of there way to make your stay enjoyable. Thank you both so much and we will definitely be back.
