Coastal Cottages in Sussex
Buzzing Brighton, historic Hastings, calming Camber Sands… The list goes on. All of these wonderful seaside locations are proudly part of Sussex, a region renowned for its exquisite coast and countryside. Our holiday cottages along the Sussex coast allow you to explore all of the aforementioned spots and more, all while enjoying the comfort of a home-from-home stay. Choose from pet-friendly homes, luxury cottages and large properties (perfect for big groups and families) in one of the many popular holiday destinations in Sussex.
The East Sussex coast is sometimes called the Creative Coast, thanks to its centuries’ long reputation for inspiring artists. From William Blake to John Constable, the stunning coastline and the South Downs’ natural beauty make East Sussex a magnet for creatives. There is still a thriving arts scene in East Sussex and if you choose to holiday here, a trip to the tower Art Gallery in Eastbourne and Hastings Contemporary gallery, both showcasing bold and interesting modern art, is essential. Hastings is also home to an array of local galleries and workshops that you can visit in the Old Town.
We have lots of holiday cottages in Hastings, which is not only an artsy and vibrant town with a long shingle beach but is also steeped in history. Often called ‘1066 country’, the area of Hastings and Battle is, of course, where the Norman conquest of Britain occurred, but there are also a number of other historic attractions in the area. One of these is Battle Abbey, where you can learn about life in Norman Britain, but historically-inspired family attractions are dotted all over the place, including the very fun Smugglers Adventure. Deep in Hastings West Hill, this interactive museum is home to caves and caverns concealing the history of smugglers and gangs and is a hit with all those who visit. Hastings neighbour, St Leonards-on-Sea also has a splendid beach and we have many properties in the area which match the town’s Regency-era style that makes it so unique and picturesque.
Staying in East Sussex, Rye is another deeply historic and charming coastal village where we have a number of holiday cottages. Rye is a medieval harbour town, with Mermaid Street, the most photographed street in England, at its centre. With a nature reserve, harbour and plenty of cafes, pubs and shops to keep you occupied, Rye is the ideal spot for those seeking a coastal idyll to get away to. Just a three-mile walk from Rye Harbour is Camber Sands, one of the most beautiful beaches in Sussex and indeed, in the whole of England. This sandy bay is perfect for a relaxing day out, or if you fancy a more adrenaline-fuelled experience, try your hand at a spot of Kitesurfing at the Kitesurf Centre at the front of the bay. Winchelsea, which is a 15-minute drive from Rye, is another beach that is well worth a visit if you fancy trying your hand at a new watersport, including canoeing, kayaking, sailing and kitesurfing.
Moving along the coastline, you’ll find Sussex’s capital, Brighton. This striking seaside town has everything to offer, from traditional treats and games on the historic pier to trendy bars and restaurants and a beach perfect for swimming and sunbathing. We have cottages throughout Brighton, all in different areas to suit different holiday needs. If you want to make sure the kids are always entertained, or you and your partner want to be right on the seafront, check out our apartments in Brighton Marina, which has a huge selection of restaurants, shops and entertainment. Perhaps you’re seeking a fun-fuelled break in Kemp Town, filled with LGBT+ bars, vintage shops and brunch spots. In that case, check out our homes in Brighton town centre. Or maybe you’re looking for a large, luxury home close to the coast but away from the hustle and bustle, in which case you should definitely look at our homes in nearby Hove and Saltdean.
Whatever you seek from a break on the Sussex coast, we hope you find the perfect place to do it all from in one of our cottages. To learn more about Sussex and start gathering ideas for your trip, check out our Sussex travel guide.
