Description

This superbly renovated farmhouse nestles on the slopes of Cheviot and is surrounded by the most beautiful, totally unspoilt scenery and an abundance of wildlife. The peace and tranquillity of the College Valley is unsurpassed. Visitors can walk out in every direction and spend a day in the hills with the knowledge that every comfort awaits their return, as the cottage is very well appointed and equipped. This is truly an idyllic hideaway, accessed by a private single track road, the nearest habitation being some distance away. The College Valley is an exceptional place, a magical hidden gem in today's world, once seen never forgotten; twelve cars are granted permits to use the private road system each day so traffic is unlikely to be a problem. The cottages are literally sitting on the foot of the Cheviot Massif in the National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. At night the only light is from the stars and moon. Northumberland National Park Authority, Kielder Water & Forest Park Development Trust and Kielder Observatory Astronomical Society were awarded the title of Northumberland Dark Sky Park in December 2013, making Northumberland, Europe's largest Dark Sky Park. There are wild goats, deer, peregrine, buzzards, ravens, kestrels and many others. If you are quiet you may be lucky enough to see one of the most charming residents, the red squirrel. This is a perfect spot for all the countryside has to offer; walking, fishing, golfing, riding, cycling, bird-watching, historic houses, gardens, churches and castles or for driving the short distance to the coast where there are beautiful beaches, Holy Island and trips to the Farne Islands. Wooler is 13 miles, the village is friendly and offers a wide range of shops selling locally produced meat, bread and vegetables. There are several good pubs and restaurants in the area, nearest bar/restaurant 11 miles.

Reviews

Beautiful, well equipped cottage in a stunning location. No noise or light pollution a perfect spot for taking in all nature has to offer.

Mrs J,

Absolutely fantastic cottage. Location perfect for walking, and not too far drive (15-20mins) to Wooller which is a lovely village with all amenities, (note no large supermarket). If you crave remoteness on the hills, this is the place to start from. Never saw more than 5 people on any of our 5 to 6 hour walks each day, and we had chosen (by mistake) half term week. The beach at Bamburgh Castle is just fantastic for dogs.

Mrs M,

Lovely location, very peaceful and the house was very clean & cosy. I stayed in the Schoolhouse previously then I booked Dunsdale House for a weekend away with my friends, everyone loved it, despite the weather we had a perfect weekend.

Mrs L,

Beautiful property, perfect location for those looking to relax in the evenings and enjoy the fabulous countryside location by day, excellent for walkers, with routes directly from the door. It's a fabulous property the owners have thought of all families needs, right down to the electric blankets un every bedroom, which were brilliant I must say, we visited in November for my 60th birthday so you can imagine low temperatures, but the property is very warm and cozy.

Mrs R,

Location superb fantastic accommodation

Mr C,

The cottage and location were stunning and we loved the surroundings and wildlife. It was beautifully quiet. If we were really picky, we couldn't get on with the showers. The grate was pretty mucky which we tried to clean and a frying pan was pretty yukky......probably passed cleaning. These are definitely small points. We had a really lovely time.

Mrs Gwyneth D,

This is the second time we have stayed in The College Valley, last year at The School house. Dunsdale is a much bigger property however the quality and standard remains the same, it is excellent. The house is presented beautifully and everything you need is provided. The towels and bed linen are of an exceptional standard and it was good night's sleep all round. If you're a fan of the outdoors and its solitude you seek, look no further, Dunsdale has it all. Already decided on a return visit next year. 10/10

Mr Martin D,

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. Great for a walking holiday, very isolated so more time consuming if you are out and about. Totally worth it.

Mrs Johanna W,

Our perfect holiday. Location was superb. There are not many properties that are that remote, especially with such a high standard of facilities. The best holiday home we have stayed in to date.

Ms Jane L,

Efficient booking process and text reminders. Property was high standard and professionally managed.

Mrs Christine B,
