This superbly renovated farmhouse nestles on the slopes of Cheviot and is surrounded by the most beautiful, totally unspoilt scenery and an abundance of wildlife. The peace and tranquillity of the College Valley is unsurpassed. Visitors can walk out in every direction and spend a day in the hills with the knowledge that every comfort awaits their return, as the cottage is very well appointed and equipped. This is truly an idyllic hideaway, accessed by a private single track road, the nearest habitation being some distance away. The College Valley is an exceptional place, a magical hidden gem in today's world, once seen never forgotten; twelve cars are granted permits to use the private road system each day so traffic is unlikely to be a problem. The cottages are literally sitting on the foot of the Cheviot Massif in the National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. At night the only light is from the stars and moon. Northumberland National Park Authority, Kielder Water & Forest Park Development Trust and Kielder Observatory Astronomical Society were awarded the title of Northumberland Dark Sky Park in December 2013, making Northumberland, Europe's largest Dark Sky Park. There are wild goats, deer, peregrine, buzzards, ravens, kestrels and many others. If you are quiet you may be lucky enough to see one of the most charming residents, the red squirrel. This is a perfect spot for all the countryside has to offer; walking, fishing, golfing, riding, cycling, bird-watching, historic houses, gardens, churches and castles or for driving the short distance to the coast where there are beautiful beaches, Holy Island and trips to the Farne Islands. Wooler is 13 miles, the village is friendly and offers a wide range of shops selling locally produced meat, bread and vegetables. There are several good pubs and restaurants in the area, nearest bar/restaurant 11 miles.

Lovely cottage in a unique and quite amazing location. Lots of room with four well-sized bedrooms. The internet was a little flaky, but it was never an issue. Loads to see and do in the area, with The Cheviot on your doorstep. We saw Mountain Goats from the cottage (but in the distance), plenty of rabbits, also the odd deer.

This is the best equipped and cleanest holiday cottage we have yet stayed in . the position was out of this world - we are keen fell walkers and being able to walk straight from the house was wonderful. We enjoyed it so much we have already booked a week in March and a second in October next year.

We had such a wonderful stay at Dunsdale Cottage. It was the perfect base for our 2 families to stay for our annual get together. Plenty of space for the 4 children to mooch about, and such a relaxing setting for the adults to drop out, read books and cook some nice meals. Whilst the cottage is in a very remote location, we did also have day triRead moreps out; Bamburgh beach, Alnwick (including the amazing bookshop), and Amble; so the best of both worlds really. Really comfy beds and the kitchen was really well equipped. Would really recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing break where you can really get away from it all. Hide

Very comfortable and fabulously well-equipped cottage in a remote part of the Cheviots. Plenty of walks from the front door, cold water bathing in the nearby Bizzle, superb view of the Milky Way at night. Highly recommended.

If you want seclusion (as we did) then this cottage is perfect and the scenery is sublime. When you turn the lights out at night the darkness is total (and I mean total). Yes, it's a slow drive to the place but who's in a hurry? Walks are all around and as hard as you want them to be. Cottage is nice and comfortable and pretty well equipt.
