This superbly renovated farmhouse nestles on the slopes of Cheviot and is surrounded by the most beautiful, totally unspoilt scenery and an abundance of wildlife. The peace and tranquillity of the College Valley is unsurpassed. Visitors can walk out in every direction and spend a day in the hills with the knowledge that every comfort awaits their return, as the cottage is very well appointed and equipped. This is truly an idyllic hideaway, accessed by a private single track road, the nearest habitation being some distance away. The College Valley is an exceptional place, a magical hidden gem in today's world, once seen never forgotten; twelve cars are granted permits to use the private road system each day so traffic is unlikely to be a problem. The cottages are literally sitting on the foot of the Cheviot Massif in the National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. At night the only light is from the stars and moon. Northumberland National Park Authority, Kielder Water & Forest Park Development Trust and Kielder Observatory Astronomical Society were awarded the title of Northumberland Dark Sky Park in December 2013, making Northumberland, Europe's largest Dark Sky Park. There are wild goats, deer, peregrine, buzzards, ravens, kestrels and many others. If you are quiet you may be lucky enough to see one of the most charming residents, the red squirrel. This is a perfect spot for all the countryside has to offer; walking, fishing, golfing, riding, cycling, bird-watching, historic houses, gardens, churches and castles or for driving the short distance to the coast where there are beautiful beaches, Holy Island and trips to the Farne Islands. Wooler is 13 miles, the village is friendly and offers a wide range of shops selling locally produced meat, bread and vegetables. There are several good pubs and restaurants in the area, nearest bar/restaurant 11 miles.

Another amazing trip to Dunsdale House, which certainly won’t be our last. The remote and idyllic location with the backdrop of the breathtaking cheviots never gets old. The house itself is warm, comfortable and well maintained with acres of space so you don’t feel confined. I couldn't rate this stay highly enough. Wether your looking for a base for some amazing walks and hill climbs, or you’re looking for a calming break from the day to day bustle of modern life, this place ticks all the boxes! Thanks again x

Mr E,

Thankyou very much, Dunsdale house is a fantastic house in the most dramatic location at the foot of the cheviot! We really enjoyed our stay here.

Mr Y,

Location was beautiful. Property was lovely. Support and service from Ros Harris was spectacular. Never have I felt so looked after than from owner who proactively helped when the weather was challenging. Thank you!

Mr F,

Great location, very comfortable house and everything that we needed was there. Best ever!

Mr s,

This is our 2nd visit to Dunsdale. We visited 12 years ago when the children were little. It was great to go back and experience it all again now they are older The location and accommodation is outstanding Our little piece of heaven.

Mrs S,

College Valley is a perfect location for hill walkers. Dunsdale House offers the luxury and superb comfort tired legs and happy hearts deserve!

Dr A,

This cottage is the most idyllic we’ve ever rented. The variety of wild birds and hill walks was astonishing and the cottage so comfortable and well equipped we would have been able to ride out the variable Northumbrian weather. Reluctant to review as want to keep it to ourselves!

Mrs R,

The house really is a hidden gem. I mean, there's absolutely nothing around but you and the hills around. The weather was quite bad so we didn't get to go for hikes much, we went up the hill with springs, so I think winter time might be a better option as it seems to snow over there. We found snow on the peak of the hill at the end of May. Highly recommended though, very nice and cosy, plenty of wood for the fire place as well as coal. Everyone in our group loved it!

Mr M,
