Introduction

The Old School is situated within the village of Howick, near Alnwick, Northumberland. Car parking is near the house and there is a ramp up to the front door. Bedroom accommodation is upstairs.

Description

This superb listed building was once a school for Howick Village, and is part of the Howick Estate, which was the home of the 2nd Earl Grey for whom the famous tea was blended. He became Prime Minister in 1830 and his monument stands at the top of Grey Street in Newcastle. The shoreline is just 400 metres away on a stunning coastal stretch designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest where you can enjoy spectacular views of Dunstanburgh Castle, interesting bird life and wild flowers on a walk to Craster or Alnmouth.

The property is stone-built (thick walls) and therefore cosy in all weathers. Central heating works well. The accommodation is spacious and well designed. Within a short walking distance you have free access to the estate, its arboretum and Howick Hall with its historic tea-room and newly opened visitor centre. Also the coastal path and beaches are within half a mile.And there's a bus stop just by the house. We've been there twice and we loved it.

Great location - straight onto the coastal path. Perfect for exploring all of the great Northumbria locations. Walking heaven, lovely host, very helpful. Co-op just down the road for those additional items. Best of all so dark at night so you can enjoy the sky and listen to the sea

Excellent location, easy walking direct from the door. Great variety of walking too, woodland, countryside and coast path all on the doorstep with wildlife aplenty to watch (Barn owls hunt the field next door). Ideal accommodation, with plenty of room to spread out
